A knit skirt is always a great answer when you are looking for both comfort and style. But this isn’t just any knit skirt!
The Claudette Skirt mimics the glamorous draped gowns of the 1940s, but in a far more comfortable (and washable!) fabric choice. Named after the incredible Claudette Colbert, this skirt pays homage to her iconic look in the 1934 movie Cleopatra.
With two different length options, you can mimic your favorite silver screen goddess with a floor-length skirt or choose the knee-length version for everyday wear.

You'll find the tiled file (for printing at home on A4 or letter size sheets and taping together) and the A0 file (for printing at a copy shop like ThePlottedPattern.com or PDFPlotting.com). Please note that we now have two size blocks, so make sure to download the correct files for the size you're making. Agree to sizing down and wow, so much extra length to trim! I've pinned up at least 6 inches as well.
This is a bit late in reply but having had 5 babies(!) i feel like a lighter weight powermesh would feel supportive and would grow with you.
Hey everyone! I hope someone can help me out? I would love to make this skirt as maternitywear as I'm having a hard time finding nice maternity clothes in my size and style. So my question is, would this work for a smaller belly(12 to20 week pregnacy) without adjustments? OR would adjustments be needed nonetheless? Because of the powermesh? I've never adjusted patterns for maternity before and would like to make this skirt for the upcoming weeks of Dutch summer. Thanks in advance!!
I just finished my mockup Claudette skirt. Here are my notes....1) I took 6" off the length by folding the pattern up above the knee length markings and truing up the side seam lines. The length came out perfect for me. 2) I attempted to put in side seam pockets--DON'T DO IT! Learn from me. The weight of the front pleats and gathering pulls the pockets open & creates an unflattering fold across your tummy. 3) I will size down the next one. Again the weight of the pleats weighs down the skirt, so it needs to be tight on the waist. Overall, I'm going to LOVE this skirt once the tweaks are in place. I also think I can fix my mockup since I can afford to go down a size. Hope y'all have fun sewing this one up!
