Soviet dead and missing 1941-1945
🕑 Added 2022-06-09 11:04:01 +0000 UTCI have been working on a new video project to map the losses in the European theatre.
Each bubble is 10 000 men lost. White is deceased. Yellow is missing (mostly taken prisoner).

What about tracking the movements of the SS & Polizei units in the Eastern Front & their killings (most are available in Gilbert's Atlas). That will be very appreciated

The Civilians are even higher (12-13 mil), but I've yet to see a study that breaks it down. If you know of one in Russian, I'd like to hear.
Eastory
It represents the Soviet pursuit of the retreating Germans in 1944 the Petsamo–Kirkenes offensive. You are right that it is misplaced. Should be more in the Petsamo area, where most of the fighting was.

How did that one bubble end up at the Inari village in Finnish Lapland? Is it misplaced data from the Petsamo-Murmansk area?
Eastory
Yes, military losses that could be located in the data. It is 11.4 dead and missing out of which 8.7 million are dead. Some claim that the figure is larger.
YW
I guess. There's no official breakdown of civilian deaths available yet.

Military deaths only?
