The definition as to how one lives is subjective to a degree, as there is a difference between a lone wolf and a hermit style existence. Remember, there's a big difference between internet and actual physical social interaction. Lone wolves are just very choosey and limiting regarding who and how they interact with.

The surgeon general stating that isolation is like smoking 15 cigarettes a day is impressive. Being alone is not ok for longevity. I know Vince always says he is a lone wolf but he is engaging with people often online. I have lost lots of friends after they get married. I am sure I'm not alone
