Wesley has one of the best character arcs in the Buffyverse. His character is amazing! He's my 3rd favorite character in the show Angel. My other 2 favorite characters aren't introduced to the show until later on.

i dunno if this is spoilery to say but wesley legit ends up becoming my favourite character on the buffyverse and it is entirely because of his various angel arcs. be patient pal.

It is fascinating how unplanned cast changes shifted the dynamic of both Season 4 of Buffy and Season 1 of Angel and left both shows with largely self contained early season miniarcs marked out by those shifts. The first six or seven episodes of this season's Buffy are pretty much all about our heroes adjusting to college (or not in the case of Xander) before Oz leaves, Spike joins the main cast and we find out who those weird masked military types are. With Angel the first 9 episodes have a particularly strong noir vibe since Doyle is such a classic noir type character and Glenn Quinn really brought that in his performance. I love Wesley in Angel and I think you'll love him too but it definitely shifts the tone of the show.
