Agh, I’m too late and the poll already closed, but I would have given it a 5. The opening number “Status Report” was catchy and moved the plot forward. It’s the only song with a melody that stick in my head, and I find myself walking around singing “why am I singing?” Some other numbers were okay in terms of giving the viewer information, like “I’m the X”, and “I’m ready”, but the rest just seemed like meh songs that served no purpose. I appreciated that this episode tied up loose ends with La’an and Kirk, Spock and Chapel, and Una, so I give it points for that, too. Also… I think if songs in musicals are well done, they absolutely should move the plot forward, and it’s not wrong to expect that. Wouldn’t y’all say the songs in “Hamilton” do so? Or even Disney songs, like “Let It Go” and “You’re Welcome”?
The fact that they had Spock singing and I was totally down for it makes me admire this episode a lot. I went full 9. I don't regret it.
On the first watch I gave it a 6, but I find that musicals get either much worse or much better on re-watch. This musical episode got much better! Up to an 8.5 for me. Favorite song both times was Spock’s pensive X/ex and Y/why song. Math, puns, and harmonics just go together!
