The good news: There are actually some GREAT cartoons out there which are beautifully made and have great cross-appeal for kids and adults! Some of them are so dang beautiful. If you'd like we could give some recommendation. You don't even have to react to them (Although I'm sure there would be an audience). But some are so good I love to spread the word for their own sake.

Terry Gilliam's other movies might be of interest since you enjoyed Time Bandits. Brazil (1985) in particular is worth a watch or reaction. 12 Monkeys (1995), Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) also noteworthy.

"Polar Express" has been my favorite Christmas movie for a while now. Watching it has been the last thing I've done before going to sleep on Christmas eve for the last 15 or so years now. As for new Christmas movies, I also watched "That Christmas", which I thoroughly enjoyed as well. And yes, watching "A Charlie Brown Christmas" is always a good time. It's no wonder that Willow goes over to Xander's to watch it every year.

Hmm, "Time Bandits" is a movie I haven't seen for a long time... I recall the scene in which they gave the giant a sleeping potion through the bottom of the ship that was being worn unintentionally as a hat... As a Gen-Xer I have seen a lot of "children's movies" that did not skimp on the emotional themes like "Labyrinth", "Willow", and (particularly) "The Dark Crystal". "The Neverending Story" I've never seen but also goes into those groupings just fine. Another interesting one that I wouldn't call a kid's movie, but I watched it as a kid was "Dragonslayer"... If Cass hasn't seen those, I do recommend them.

There's a short animated film in the UK which is shown every Christmas Eve on terrestrial TV, called The Snowman. No romancing in this one, however (it's essentially made for kids), but it still hits hard forty-odd years after its release - I love how the creator chose to end the film.

My Christmastime staples are 'Home Alone', 'Nightmare Before Christmas' (on years that I don't watch it around Halloween time), and 'The Muppet Christmas Carol'. A Christmas movie that I watched for the first time in December 2024 was 'The Christmas Chronicles' with Kurt Russel as Santa Claus. I enjoyed that one. After Christmas I also re-watched a body horror film that I'd recommend 'Slither' (2006).
