The maid Shen Cui (沈翠) translates as "deep jade".
In the name Gu Yue Chi Lian (古月赤练), the character 赤 (Chi) means "red". That’s why he (and the entire Chi faction) should ideally be depicted with red hair.
When Fang Yuan joined the caravan under the name Hei Tu(黑土), his name literally meant "black dirt" - he wore black clothes, hence the nickname "Black and White Demons".
