🕑 Added 2023-08-23 01:45:58 +0000 UTCBirth Control is so very important in Narakyian society that an entire system of runes have been created to deal with potential pregnancies in those that can get pregnant. It's intricate and difficult to master - especially since Narakyian have so little control over their own magic. The skill is highly prized and many make a legitmate career out of doing it as a service.
The runes aren't visible unless intentionally activated by someone with magic, though in shade you can sometimes see the faint lines. Their effectiveness fade after a few years so they're often renewed and checked by experts. It's extremely rare for Narakyian able to get pregnant not to have some sort of birth control and it's considered crass and even illegal in some circumstances not to have one within communities. When Narakyian get married, often part of the ritual is to remove the runes, so that the pair can immediately get to the baby making process.
Wasai became somewhat of an expert in her younger years and often teaches young noble-people. She's well known for having very dependable runes that last longer then usual.
I was experimenting a little with procreate and ended up doing this! It's messy but i like it. MIght build on this concept.

So there's specific runes for pain management and healing. Midwives specialize in it but it's fairly rudiamentary. Male Birth Control is more difficult magic wise so it's not as practiced but some do use it in cases where they're vashi or doing partners that are in marriages looking to get pregnant from one specific person.

Fascinating! Gods do I wish I could get a uterus rune with no side effects. I had been wondering about this. Is there potentially more magic that a doula or midwife would practice? Or runes for male birth control? I'm just curious 'cause I rarely see such practical magic in settings! <3
