If you hit G while in your vehicle, you can look at a select list of parts on your vehicle, and from there you can add commands for them to your vehicles hot bar, including connecting your connector port. It will also let you know when you can connect it.

I think the resources that are duplicated in the recipe (like iron plates being listed twice) are the amount needed to be function + the amount needed to be 100%

And a suggestion: Use pistons, rotors and conveyors with a MINING DRILL on the tip to make a quary by your base ;D Maybe bellow it? If you add a solar panel to the roof of the rover, you wont need to park it to reload the batts... Try maybe using a Hinge to point the base connector a lil bit down to connect the vehycle ;D

Okay, as funny as it is to see you suffer. You can change your camera angle while in third or first person with alt. Pressing V will reset the angle.
