Big Bad Hank The Manga?!
🕑 Added 2024-10-11 10:08:08 +0000 UTCTaking a break from animation a bit and let's take a look at what could've been and might be in the future: Big Bad Hank The Manga?!
Earlier this year I considered myself to go back and do comics (I was so tired and burned out from animating all year) Using the manga I like as a reference, I was practicing their technique (use limited screentone, how they do the strokes and such) to draw like them for a while.
Starting with Mango the Dragon in this post Mango Manga Practice.
But I wanna do more with our big bad wolf Hank. I realized that the scenario is going to be full of forest and trees and I can't think of anything on how to apply that into a comic format. How did they draw the trees in manga style, etc.
I ended up doing it in my own way XD Using brush and stroke to make a impression of what's the forest wil looks like:
It was okay.
I then try to research the manga I like and remember which one has a lot of forest drawing. One manga that came to my mind was Kouya ni Kemono Doukokusu by Ito Sei.
I'm not a fan of the story or the pacing but I really love the old school technique of the author, the way he draw you can feel the energy flowing in every panel π₯
So I use one page of his comic and study the way he draws, the layout, the screentone and etc for a day.
Here's the result!:
Don't mind the dialogue I just made that up XD
Ironically the page I chose has no trees or forest lol I just got sparkled by his stroke and strong contrast, with superb craftsmanship his skill is I was urged to learn how he draws in overall.
Comparison:
I was satisfied!
Tho, in the end I chose to do animation, since it was my dream from the beginning to make moving cartoon pictures π₯ But who knows the future, when I am fed up with animation I might go back to draw more comics, expand their stories and so on.
I'll keep sharpen my drawing skills until that day β€οΈ
Now, back to anim!!!

Wah! This super detailed Hank face and close-up are so cool! *~~* His rough gnarly hands, and his teeth, hot.

YEAAAAHHH Why not do both? I mean, GOOD manga writing aint easy in the slightest. And even if it was just a retelling of your cartoon, personally id still buy a paper copy if the art style is similar to the ones shown here. It may give u more moola for the animation bit if worked on at the same time :0

ass so bad it's destroy the toilet XD

lol it's just one page I still have a lot to learn!
Piti Yindee
Or draw it right away! Manga/comic is all about telling the story <3

That is some of the best non-mangaka manga art I have ever seen! And I have been reading for well over a decade! (Sheesh, getting old...)

Amazing! I'm also thinking of making a small manga with my Fursonas, but first I have to learn basic anatomy π

Holy sh*t, that's amazing Piti! You have talent both as an animator and a manga artist! Maybe you could make a webcomic or a manga tie-in as a companion piece to your animated episodes! That would be sick!! π
