I’m autistic and I’m with op. Sia doesn’t get any passes for her disgusting and horrifying ableism. Idk if James and his crew know, but I hope they see this and get informed. I don’t appreciate the commenters talking down to autistic people like me and op for feeling upset about seeing her OR seeing that particular clip. You don’t get to decide what’s fine when it doesn’t affect you. In any case, there is no way to know whether the Dead Meat Crew is aware of Sia’s ableism or not, but it’s never a bad idea to speak up about it.

I never attacked James. I just pointed out the issue. Although, it’s kinda sus that the clip they used was from that particular interview. My point is that something like ableism shouldn’t be swept under the rug.

As someone with autism and learning disabilities, your completely valid and I get just as angry and disappointed when I see sia, but I’m not completely sure if your trying to make a point here against James? Sometimes people just aren’t aware of things, and the sia situation honestly was very niche, anytime I bring it up irl with other queer/autistic people most of the time just genuinely did not know, yes he used a clip from the interview but he probably wasn’t the one that edited it, and whoever did was probably just finding a second long clip and didn’t look at the context behind it, you can’t really do background checks on every single person included in a video for stuff like this, again I completely agree with you and it’s not a topic to be taken lightly but I’m just not sure what your point is here?

Not-so-friendly reminder that the clip of Sia is from an interview in which she promoted her offensive and misleading movie Music. The interviewer even said that the autistic character in the movie, Music, might as well be “an inanimate object like a wig” because she couldn’t speak, and Sia smiled as if she agreed. The movie not only inaccurately depicts autistic people with high support needs, but it also provides dangerous information about how to handle autistic people. There are two scenes in which prone restraints are used to calm down Music, and this technique is outdated and fatal. An autistic boy was actually killed this way around the same time the prone restraint clips were leaked. Sia responded by deleting her Twitter and claiming that the scenes would be removed or that the movie would at least have disclaimers at the beginning. The movie stayed the same. Now Sia expects the autistic community to forgive her because she was recently diagnosed as autistic. The damage caused by her movie and her toxic fans (who threatened my autistic friends btw) is too massive for us to to just simply brush her internalized ableism under the rug. If you’re gonna comment back telling me to get over it or to not be so over dramatic or that the movie wasn’t as bad as I say it is, take the time to question if you truly live by James’s mantra of “be good people”.
