Turn of the Year Projects
🕑 Added 2024-11-21 02:21:09 +0000 UTCHi patrons! James here.
I meant to write another text update like this over the weekend, but got a bit busy so I hope today will suffice.
There's always a lot going on in Dead Meat world and I like sharing updates with you all through these posts. Truthfully, they've been a sort of practice run for me to get more used to writing and to establish this style of regularly checking in. Soon (very soon?) we'll be changing the platform, though - we'll be sending out weekly updates on the official Dead Meat Newsletter (which will hopefully have a cooler name when it launches).
We're deep in discussions with Beehive to set that up, but in the meantime you can make sure you'll be included by going to our website www.deadmeat.rip and adding your email address at the bottom where it says "Newsletter". Looking forward to having that as a good way to reach our fans, since everyone's currently so spread out across all the different social media platforms (which I've been trying to limit myself on lately anyway).
Lately we've been focusing on three projects outside of the usual Kill Count and Podcast releases. We're really excited for all of them, and the energy I feel working on them reenforces my decision to have a reduced Kill Count schedule in 2025. I'm still scared of how it may impact our company financially, but I'm trying to be optimistic because working on these other things feels refreshing and, frankly, necessary.
Anyway, the first is something brand new: a Dead Meat Holiday Live Show here in LA! We don't have the date 100% confirmed right now but it looks like it will be on December 22nd. This will be an in-person 2 hour show at a theater with games, audience participation, and special guests. What's great is that non-LA folks can tune in by buying a ticket to a livestream. We've got a lot of fun things planned for this, including appearances from Dead Meat team members and a sock drive for the homeless. When tickets become available to purchase, my plan is to post it to Patreon one day before posting it publicly. I think you all should have the chance to get tickets before the in-person ones sell out. Because you're our best supporters!
The other two projects are my two favorite things we do at Dead Meat, back for their 3rd and 4th years.
In January we'll have the third Horror Royal Rumble where Chelsea's homemade horror characters duke it out in the latest WWE game. She's already made more than half the contestants, though we also have to decide if we want any of them to have managers accompany them to the ring.
There are so many reasons I love doing this every year - everyone gets to see how incredible Chelsea is at character creation; we get to have a blast editing their entrances between their actions, the pyro, and the music; and I get to live out a dream by being a pro wrestling commentator while I watch the action unfold. Plus, we're hoping to get videos from WWE wrestlers again picking their winners, and that's always fun to see. Hope you're all as excited for it as we are.
And finally we're already hard at work on the Dead Meat Horror Awards. We normally wouldn't have to start work on them quite this early, but this year we want to add something new in the form of acceptance videos from the winners. I think that'll make it much more satisfying, to see the recipients with their trophies giving a few words.
Problem is, that means we have to get those videos filmed before the awards come out... which means we have to have the trophy placards made early, so we can ship them out... which means we have to have the winners determined early.... which means we have to assemble our voting panel early.... which means we have to pick all the nominees early. That's a lot of early stuff.
Doesn't help that this was another banner year for horror, and that Chelsea and I still have a lot to see. We're gonna have to get on that soon, I just don't know when we're gonna find the time to watch 10+ movies. I'm still confident we'll pull it off, but if you see me posting here, asking for nominee suggestions in certain categories, it'll be so we can narrow down our viewings a bit better with the limited time we have. Oh shit and we've gotta contact and nail down presenters, and film them too. Man a lot of work goes into this thing. And it's worth every minute, IMO.
Those are the main things, the top-of-brain things, for Dead Meat at the moment. We're working on getting more merch available, with some new items, before the Christmas season. I'll keep you posted on that. I've also been trying to stay on top of Patreon rewards and spent the weekend filming a bunch of the cameo requests for top-tier patrons. If you're at that level and made a request but didn't get a video yet, let me know (preferably through email or DM here). And if you're at that level but haven't made a request yet, feel free to do so - you're entitled to it! You paid for it!
In personal news it looks like I may have gotten a small part in a horror short being made by some cool people. I can't speak too much about it yet because they're going to do a public announcement, but I'm hoping I can keep stacking up credits and material for a reel so I can get cast in bigger things down the line. It's weird to realize I've aged out of a lot of roles that I always wanted to play - it's too late for me to be an annoying college bro or a young slasher victim, for instance. But maybe I can wind up like a Ty Burrell and play a young-ish goofy dad or something. I'll always be sad I wasn't able to act in my earlier years, but to be fair, I was busy building something pretty cool here.
I'll try to update you all again over the weekend, but just know there's a lot going on here and we're all excited for it. Let me know if there's any way we can make your Patreon experience better. As always, thanks so much for your support. It really means a lot to us.

I've got to be the obligatory negative guy upset about fewer kill counts each week. Maybe because i got so used to the once a week schedule, even though i know it takes a ton of work. And as much as I love Zorne, i just feel games and comics don't translate well into the dead meat platform as movies do. Plus there must be literally countless other movies that could be covered, from the body horror of Cronenberg to , comedies like Death Becomes Her, Jacobs Ladder , even some art house pieces like House or El Topo. And they'd all be so cool to see covered on the show! So while I understand you need to go after your artistic and creative vision and all that blah blah, ... I'm still an unhappy camper ): But once again i get it, no hard feelings (:

James please call the newsletter the Dead Meat Sample Platter.

That photo of Molly is beyond priceless! š„°

So excited for everything coming up! Thanks for all the hard work.

Iām available to present an award for the Horror Awards. My schedule has a couple empty spots in it between now and the end of the year. (oh god iām joking please donāt put me on camera ever.) Iām sad to see a reduced Kill Count schedule but honestly, yāall got me here and Iām not going anywhere. I love what you do, and Iām sure most people here are in the same camp.

Always makes me think⦠grad students exist. It might be silly at some point, where itād make more sense to be a middle aged professor. But you also donāt NEED to look 19 to be at a university.
Lestat-TheBratPrince
Is there a way to watch the live show, not live? Iām an Aussie and our time zones means I will probably miss it.
Anthony Luis-Vasquez
All love from Portland OR (lets go ducksš¦), hope yāall will have some time to BREATHE and that this year brings happiness, relief and opportunityš§

i believe you can still be a college bro. it's about how old you look! I still look like I could play a college freshman or senior in High School and we're the same age James! I say go for everything and more. I'm looking forward to the upcoming projects but I wanna stress self care as worn out as that word may have gotten. the fans will understand the much needed break! blessings to the Dead Meat Team! love you guys! šš½

I canāt wait for the Dead Meat Horror Awards! The passion & the work you guys put into it absolutely shows & I love that every year it evolves into something biggerš Also, I can totally see you as a Ty Burrell goofy dad typeš
Jacob Schneider
I would love to attend the live show since Iāll be in LA for winter break. As a patron, can I buy tickets for my friends on the day early despite them not being patrons?
Christian Ireland
Hey James. Glad to hear there are a lot of cool projects in the works currently. I love the Horror Royal Rumble every year and the Dead Meat Horror Awards is always cool. Sad to hear there will be less Kill counts in 2025 but I understand that you want to break out and do other stuff as well. Also I feel like you would make an excellent Slasher victim they would be lucky to gut you like a fish.
Nestor
Thanks for the thorough updateāyou guys are the best!

The Dead Meat Beat would be a cool name for the newsletter, but it also sounds like an inuendo... Excited to read it!

I was wondering if commentary tracks will be making a comeback in the Patreon? I joined the Patreon last month so Iām not sure if this has been asked before.

NOOOOOOOO, THAT PICTURE OF MOLLY IS JUST SO DAMN CUTE?!?! šš
Alex J. Sandoval
I was thinking 'Dead Meat Milk Carton', like where they would put pictures & info about missing kids back when, but that's pretty anachronistic at this point, and I think your suggestion is better. š
Ebone Ashford
Excited for whatever new you bring to the table! I love that your are exploring more and finding more ways to bring new life to your channel!
Dead Meat
NNOOOOO!!!! š

Cannot wait for the live show, Royal Rumble and Awards- always a highlight of my year! Once again thank you for all of the unbelievable hard work you, Chelsea and the team put in, I'm just grateful to still have my safe space of Dead Meat. Congrats on the role in the horror short! Although you may be a bit miffed (UK term sorry š) about not being able to do certain roles- I'm still amazed at how much you did do with the likes of the sketches on Practical Folks, the Look See and appearing in so many cool music videos! Very proud to be a Dead Meat fan ā¤ļøš¤

This is all so exciting!!! Amazing news guys. Hoping for a London UK con or show one day, we're inching closer every year!

Iām super stoked for the newsletter, James. I love all the effort yāall put into keeping us up to date on the cool stuff yāall are working on. And I canāt wait to see what characters yāall have in the next Royal Rumble. Fingers crossed for Abigail or Samantha Carpenter (I donāt remember if Sam was in either of the prior Rumbles).
Divine_Dee
We're behind you no matter what you choose to do. I love everything you have done, and I know the future looks bright for Dead Meat!
Dave
And maybe Zoran can do an additional "regular" KC for movies you have absolutely no interest in like "Dude Bro". Maybe?
Chloe Calloway
Plus the Zoran KCs on the first Friday of every month, presumably. So that's still at least 3 kill counts a month!
Stingyjack
Thatās good

Hey James. I first stumbled upon your channel in 2020 with the Chucky franchise kill count. Really wish I could have done it earlier but oh well. I just want to say, I can't thank you enough for everything that you and the team put into the channel. It's funny because your content is about counting kills and talking about horror movies, some of which are very graphic and disturbing, yet those videos have brought me comfort and joy even in my worst days. I've been a patreon for less than a year. I'm kinda sorry I didn't become one earlier but it just wasn't possible. I'm at the lowest tier but I hope that even that one dollar from me helps y'all. You totally deserve it and I'm happy contributing even that tiny amount š You have my support and I sincerely hope every wish y'all have for the channel comes true. Sending blessings and good luck. Ty for those pics of Lucy and Molly. Take care Jamesš«¶š¼

One possible name for the newsletter could be "The Autopsy Report"
Dead Meat
I'm always willing to re-asses and adjust, but as of now the plan is to do the "every other week" schedule for all of 2025 (except for October, that'll be once a week if not twice a week).
Chloe Calloway
Is the reduced kill count schedule permanent? Or just for the beginning of the year?
Dan May
This reads so open and honest. I genuinely appreciate it.
Nate Stephenson
That puppy face!
Brent Hillyer
Looking forward to seeing you finally die on screen. You got robbed in your first outing.
Del
I donāt usually interact with patron posts but I love these new updates! Thanks for being one of the coolest creators Iāve got to support over the many years :) you and the dead meat team are awesome, so excited to watch all of your hard work.
Jared
Lucy and Molly! molly with that arm and lucy with that stare, too adorable.
Desiree Wiegand
This is all so exciting!!
Amanda
I love these written updates as much as the weekly Livestream! We all appreciate everything you all do. I can't wait to see the short you will be in. Also the pet pics at the end are just too freaking cute!
The Spikester
You spoil us with all this awesome content. I will forever admire your dedication to your craft and your fans. The Rumble and the Awards show are always awesome! I look forward to see whatever acting projects you end up working on. I know you'll kick ass.
Tony
LUCYYYY! Also all the other stuff but .... LUCCCYYY!!!!! "It's weird to realize I've aged out of a lot of roles that I always wanted to play" - felt that in my bones. As they creak away. I think/hope you're joking that you're Ty Burell now since he's got, what, 20 years on you? Regardless.... Looking forward to buying a ticket to the virtual event. Hope it doesn't go the way of the Tyson/Paul fight where it's just constant failure : ) Give Lucy a treat; she's a good girl. And give Molly a treat too; she's a good girl, if WAY less camera shy :) (Also, aren't all your Pateron subscribers Top-Tier? It bugs me that Patreon words it that way. We're your biggest fans *Kathy Bates Face*)
The Losers Team
Man, I would love to be able to vote for one of the awards in the future. As an amateur movie reviewer, that the dream, but as a fan, I would be happy to vote along with the community on like a "viewers choice" category. Lol
Bret

Been here since you started in 2017 (F13 Part 3 was my first kill count!) and your videos and Chelsea's podcast have definitely helped me through some dark times. I have a feeling we're all gonna need more Dead Meat joy in the future, so I'm thrilled you seem to be more motivated than ever. Thanks for all you and your team do!
