🕑 Added 2025-03-04 21:07:07 +0000 UTCHello! For this latest Patreon podcast, me Chelsea and Graessle discuss the Oscar ceremony and the nominated films. Overall we enjoyed the show! And since we were able to watch all 10 Best Picture nominees we have OPINIONS! Let us know what you think.
If you prefer a Soundcloud link here it is, but it's been a little unreliable lately so we've been uploading the tracks directly to Patreon as well:

I think overall, the movies didn't quite stack up to last year's. We're just over here waiting for the Horror Awards 🥹
Anni
I wish they would add a best special effects category
Caden Conner
i saw the tv glow was a massive snub. i personally think it was the best movie of the year
Chris Kusiolek
I think some of the industry’s love for Emilia Perez comes from the redemption via philanthropy element in that film, at least that’s what that stunk like to me (plus generally being out of touch theater types)

I would like to make a correction, LOTR got 1 acting nomination. Ian McKellen was nominated for best supporting actor for Fellowship
Blake Douglas
Adrien is the brutalist guy ever
Christopher Ikonomou
The redeeming line from Adrien Brody's speech was him thanking The Brutalist's production designer Judy Becker and calling her the real Laszlo Toth! This year and last were such great years for movies. If y'all have time it would be cool to get some lightning round review episodes for non-horror movies you see throughout the year 👀 I would love to hear Chelsea's thoughts on A Different Man and The Apprentice when she gets around to them. A Different Man is tied for my fave of the year with Sing Sing, such an intelligent and darkly funny movie about disability. And The Apprentice will make you feel like shit because it's such a strong movie about evil (written by a journalist and directed by a documentarian, it's real grim stuff), Jeremy Strong was my personal pick for Best Supporting. Sebastian Stan deserves all the love!! P.S. I watched the broadcast from Australia and got to hear Kieran Culkin say fuck on live TV, seminal moment 😂

September 5 was legit pretty good. It's 95 minutes, but also the script is tight and fast paced. Can see why it was nominated for best screenplay. I somehow didn't know much about this historical event either which was crazy to learn about.

on the point of certain actors/industry ppl not being there, its been pointed out that some movies are still in production like matt damon/anne hathaway/tom holland/etc are is Nolan's Odyssey movie so its fair that theyre just busy and instead of just hanging out at the awards that theyre not nominated for theyre like actually working, also more celebrities showed up at the after party. i think the roger corman family tree idea is fun (like the sag awards doing the law & order bit or like the bloodline presentation for WM 40) but if the fab 5 format is too masturbatory then i could see the hypothetical corman bit also being that—especially considering hollywood still insisting its a meritocracy instead of a its-who-you-know kind of industry even tho we all know it is

totally fair. i first saw it as a pete seeger stan who knew nothing about dylan and his music, and left still feeling like i knew nothing about him or his music- but for some reason i just couldn’t get the movie out of my head. i rewatched it and got a lot more out of it, i was rooting for timmy to win hard.
Dead Meat
Timmy's great! We just found the movie kinda plain.
votejuno
what is with the timmy/dylan hate 💔
charlie
Not a comment in good taste, I retract that

seeing emilia perez get only 2/13 of its nominations was funny as fuck

I'm Still Here was great, but you should watch The Seed of the Sacred Fig! It was easily the best nominee for international feature. The director was sentenced to prison in Iran for making films criticizing the Iranian government and had to shoot the entire film in secret and flee the country afterward. It has very similar subject matter to I'm Still Here, but is even better in my opinion, so I'm disappointed it didn't receive more recognition. I highly recommend!

i can, yes. listening rn.
Dead Meat
This is our 14th one! We're trying to catch up on the months we missed, too.
Dead Meat
Lol exactly. No idea what's going on with that once-reliable platform. Enshitification I guess? Can you play the file that's uploaded directly to Patreon?
Dottie Elizabeth Vanderbilt
Not me subscribing since September and just now figuring out via the notification for this that you have patreon podcast episodes 😂😂 lord
Mattie Yapp
As someone who is also a Brutalist-head the opening was very welcome
Nick Edwards
yeah, i assume it being unreliable is apart of it saying not avaliable anymore?
