Actually, I'm very glad for your comment, Ken! I write with intention, but characters often have more traits and are not uni-dimensional, so I'm happy to see readers interpreting various bits differently. So, your comment is much appreciated.

I guess I’m in the minority on one part of this: Roy is far from a model dad, but I felt he was being as heartfelt and genuine here as he could be. I don’t think it was adequate or enough to heal, but maybe enough to help start building some bridges over time. Rusty, understandably, took away the wrong parts of what Roy was trying to say. Sometimes we forget what it’s like to be 20-21. Now that doesn’t excuse how Rusty hurt Matty… but those kinds of confessions given during a time of emotional turmoil rarely turn out well.

He-he, I can see that readers' imagination is going places! Connor will get his just desserts in the end, without a doubt. Xpress will put its little devil tail in to shake things up when the time fits. But I'm glad that you guys didn't lose your humor even in these trying times (of the story, of course).

Joseph Bennett

Connor can’t contain a chortle as he addresses his loyal flock relishing “my…our victory over the forces of mindless partying and debauchery promoted by, Rusty, the ex-King, and his would be successor, the now vanished diva wannabe, Ribald.” But Connor pauses mid-chortle to notice the lack of enthusiasm from his much smaller flock who greet his triumph with yawns and meh looks. (The dog chased and caught the car, now what? Chew on a tire?) OTOH Connor happily feels a smidgen of pity (or a whopping helping of schadenfreude) for Rusty from reports in Xpress of sightings of him, a morose figure full of baleful looks at anyone daring say even “Hi Rusty.” Xpress surmises that he was probably jilted by that beauty of his weekend fling. Plus his ex friend and tutor, Matty, has spurned him for his wanton behavior, and they pass each other without a sign of recognition. But Xpress, ever hopeful for a future fun time, sniffs a coming epiphany in the air for certain someones that may dispel the gloom, and Connor chokes on his chortle.
