It's my (limited and uneducated) understanding that Willow is the authors insert of Raven(?), the irl friend of hers who is the editor mentioned in authors notes sometimes. They had some sort of falling out, I think, during the process of writing (or maybe before writing?) chapter 16, and the author rage killed her insert over it. And then they made up in time for chapter 17, and she kind of just... retconned it without mentioning it. That's my interpretation of events though.
