Not super far into the episode yet, but I kinda feel bad that I'm struggling to feel 100% bad for the guy (though also the woman has a good point imo pointing out the relationship was probably not going well already, and it was the last straw). Usually I struggle not to be overwhelmed by how awful I feel for people suffering from all the terrible crap happening in this world. So I promise I'm not totally heartless lmao. And also, I don't feel glad his life is completely falling apart to such an extreme, because that's a huge life impact. But when scalpers suffer to an extent due to their greedy choices....GOOD. Is my first reaction, because them doing the garbage crap they're doing currently is infuriating. Just ruining things for everyone else through their insatiable greed. So to some extent.... sympathy is gonna be low for the garbage people on garbage island 😬

Collecting Pokemon cards is the one hobby my brother and I have been able to keep up together since he got kids, and he's definitely more prone to the gambling part (I've had to talk him out of opening sealed products after we've opened stuff without any hits several times) as well as being more focused on the value of cards. Not that I'm completely immune to the value of cards. I love Eevee and its eeveelutions, so have had some pricey chase cards, but since I collect specific pokemon, often the ones I want out of sets are commons and uncommons, which I think makes for a much better opening experience, as well as being like: I paid money for the experience of opening a pack, not to try to get a profit.

Ok now having finished holy crap it’s flooding back how Dave would really go on these weirdly intense kicks of shaming callers, many of who shaming them for the thing they had called in to get advice about. At the time being in a religiously fundamentally environment it didn’t really hit as hard but looking back and getting a refresher through this it definitely feels almost like a kink where he gets off on the debasement not only of himself but of others and it’s a weird findom thing almost.

So maybe they address this later in the episode but as a right wing teenager I was very into Dave Ramsey so I’m gonna say a few things and come back later and see if I was right. Is Dave Centrist? Big no. He maintains (or maintained in the 2008-2012 period that I listened to his radio program) a somewhat ideologically neutral face on his show. However things kept popping up. Chastising unmarried couples who were living together. Blaming people who were in poor paying jobs for not working hard enough to deserve a better job. He also encouraged people to become house flippers and land lords so has his small share of blame in the current shitshow in the housing crisis imho. The “better than I deserve” comment is about the Christian doctrine of total depravity. Believers in this theological belief think that human beings from the time we are born are inherently depraved and sinful and therefore deserving of being cast into hell. So therefore Dave is “better than he deserves” because he’s not being tortured eternally for the sin of being born. I kind of aged out of his show as I moved further left (and stopped listening to the radio) but then I heard a news story about a pregnant employee of his being fired because they were unmarried a couple of years back and I was unsurprised. He’s probably a lot worse than is commonly known but has managed to keep a more or less manageable lid on it professionally.
