interesting GFS run - DORIAN
🕑 Added 2019-08-31 17:42:39 +0000 UTCQuite a difference in GFS runs since yesterday’s slam into Florida. This run has the eye wall staying just offshore before U-turning back into the Atlantic.
Good news for Florida. Georgia, Carolinas... not so much. I’m not a hurricane expert but it looks like this scenario would generate a MEAN storm surge from Georgia to perhaps Virginia. With an eye wall offshore, weakening will be reduced thus hurricane winds covering more turf. Perhaps that outcome is better than a Cat3-4 Direct slam? I’m just thinking out loud from my safe location in Houston. At least for now.

I was on call for this storm and drove to the Carolinas. There were 200,000+ people without power. Mostly on the coast though. Luckily they didnt get hit as hard as they thought.
