June 14 Target / Monday Recap
🕑 Added 2023-06-14 17:49:04 +0000 UTCTwo days ago chasers near Brady TX got to marvel at a twisting updraft exploding in 4000+ CAPE at sunset. Apologies to Marcus for snapping "Stay out of my shot" as he set up on my left. I should have snapped at Celton who was setting up on my right...

I suppose this is Celton's paybacks for me trying to strike up a conversation with him while he was trying to focus on flying his drone under the intense barrage of murder bolts. Don't you love it when people do that? :D

This beautiful scene flickered into the twilight...

TODAY's TARGET

The residual excitement and couple cups of coffee afterward effectively kept me awake for the late night commute home (for a free bed and breakfast), however sabotaged ALL sleep. Yesterday my brain wasn't working well enough to chase so I heeded Shaw's caring advice and took a day off (so he could have the storms to himself?).
WEIRD JUNE!

I've never seen 500mb flow like this in June over Texas and East. According to the SPC nobody has in 70 years. What does this mean? We should find out today. The theme for the last several days has been largely outflow dominant hailers tracking southeast. Perhaps due to the weaker flow at lower levels (and straight hodographs), the tornado risk has been confined to mesoscale accidents (storms bumping into each other) and QLCS thingies.
If the 10% Significant Tornado risk in Mississippi - Georgia produces a visible, photogenic and / or long-lived tornado, then we'll know this regime can deliver and factor that in the days to come. As of now, I'm pessimistic so I will be targeting the 2%, potentially explosive, later day storms near Dallas.
Good luck baffled chasers!

That is such great news on the wildfire front and on my smoke sensitivity nasal congestion.

Just beautiful. We actually had a pretty EF0 touch down in Ontario about 60 miles from where I live. Most importantly we got very beautiful rain for two days straight. Hopefully it will dampen the fires.

Gosh darn those QLCS thingies. ;)

Congrats on the beautiful photos!

Tornado on the ground north of Newton, Georgia. Appears to be a cone tornado wrapped in rain. Good luck in Texas Hank!

If you asked me to stay out of your shot, I would have mooed at you like the cows do when they take a break from feasting on their toilet/salad to say hi.

That storm and those bolts were intense! Sorry about those frames I was in lol. That tall fence was a pain to try and shoot through. Good luck today!
