June 22 Target NM & Yesterday's Killer
🕑 Added 2023-06-22 17:20:15 +0000 UTCYesterday was supposed to be only a commute day. Initially I aimed to chase the North Texas target under a thermonuclear cap just in case it broke. Why not, It's on the way to the Day2 target? I was taught that 13 degrees Celsius at 700mb was a sure bet for a cap bust. Yesterday's 700mb temps were modeled at 15 degrees near Childress TX. The SPC's non-delineated tornado risk for the area gave me an extra nudge to lolligag. The cap broke. I could have intercepted the MEAN storm in Matador Texas with some rattled core punching and poor road network however I made the live-to-fight-another-day choice and gave it a respectful wider birth. In consequence, I missed the killer tornado that plowed through Matador but did manage to wrench out an anticyclonic tornado among the onslaught of CG lightning. A dark day for sure.
Today I'll be heading into NE New Mexico for another thermonuclear set-up. Lot's of thoughts right now, but I need to get on the road so that i'm not late and rattled like yesterday.

Glad you are safe. It’s so sad about Matador. I’m Colorado, saw the first tornado of the day yesterday (landspout) which was exciting, but a bridge being out, flooding, etc. kept us from seeing the Akron tornado. Today we were on the rain wrapped thing near Denver, will have to look at footage to see if we ever got a glimpse of it. Probably in Wyoming or Nebraska tomorrow.

Looks like there was a tornado confirmed south of Denver about an hour ago. Not sure how big/dangerous but there was golf ball sized hail in Littleton (source: my aunt took video of the hail and heard the tornado sirens)

best of luck, hank! Had our own little storm season today over here in germany. About 2, maybe 3 confirmed tornadoes and a hell of a lot of supercells! Might post the satellite pictures later if someone wants a look ;)
