Joe

This must feel like an age ago for you but I had a real cackle at Rick interviewing at corporate firms back at the beginning of book two - image of Rick preparing STAR answers to competency questions was a treat.

Sarah Lin

As I mentioned above, I'm glad those parallels are being enjoyed!

Sarah Lin

This book isn't going to be about that topic, but I definitely wanted to include it! I'm glad these elements of the story are appreciated. ^-^

Isekaitis

Really enjoying the story. As some others have said, the parallels between lucrim and finances are intriguing. It will also be fun seing how the showdown will go

Joe

I love these modern day topics that you're weaving into the story - I could feel FIRE being teased at in earlier chapters but it's great that you've gone into the numbers too. Thinking about other topics, I guess Rick is a minimalist by necessity and already he works at a green, ethical company. (Still, I wouldn't say no to a chapter where Rick tosses things which no longer spark joy) Looking forward to some new techniques from the library hopefully

Sarah Lin

You're correct, but Rick isn't financially savvy enough to calculate that. If he reinvested it all, there would be the typical curve of compound interest. If he uses the lucrim to power himself constantly, it wouldn't contribute much.

Desertopa

So, as far as the figure of what Rick would have to invest into Graham's Stake in order for it to start generating enough for him to become a Perpetual Soul, I'm wondering, how does that account for the amount of lucrim the stake itself is generating prior to that point? Like, he can invest dividends from Graham's Stake back into the stake, right? Presumably trying build the stake up to that level entirely on its own output would take a really long time, but the more he puts into it, the more substantial its own returns become. How does that factor into the equation of what he needs to be able to live entirely off the stake?

Sarah Lin

Everything has a strong financial parallel, and you're correct about this one!

Sarah Lin

I enjoy writing Melissa. ^-^

Brendan Gaughan

I am loving these new chapters, I especially like the concept of a perpetual soul. As someone e interested in the financial independence/retire early movement is that something you drew on for inspiration? The whole idea that you can retire early if you live frugally and save a big enough pot seems to have parallels.

Michael son of Jacob

I'm now hooked on this new book as of chapter six. Melissa did it. She's your best character. I say that fully knowing it's my opinion, but I feel it so strongly that I wonder if it might not also be the truth. πŸ˜‹

Sarah Lin

Glad you're enjoying it!

Sarah Lin

I'm sorry it's been a negative experience for you. I do try to leave the completed chapters up for a while so people can finish, but I respect that it won't necessarily fit people's schedules. You're one month away from your total equaling the second tier, which includes a free ebook. Would you like it to be SC2? I can confirm that this is Amazon's policy, though. Some people get away with keeping chapters up, but Amazon does take it seriously - my attempt to submit a book was once blocked due to a preview they felt was overlarge.

Sebastian Viller

It says right in the pledge what you're getting as a patron: * Early access to published novels. * Access to early chapters. * Previews, monthly progress reports, and other backer threads. Their previous books are completed, edited, and published. So of course you'd have to pay for them via whatever outlet the author has chosen to release them... I mean no offense saying this mate, but you shouldn't expect something more than the pledge you're making clearly states you'll receive. Just my 2Β’, not trying to create a fight.

Nicolas Gustafsson

Thanks for the chapter; always love the parallells(and the contrasts) between real life economy and lucrim!

Thundermike00

Ok I understand that. But I'm getting at is that she should pick between one and not have both. You put your chapters on royalroad and then you take it off. Fine cool its free you get to do what you want. But you make a patron and then you expect to read all chapters available but NOPE you got to also buy Amazon's books. You might as well stick with Amazon and not pay the patron.

Sebastian Viller

It's Amazon's policy, mate. They don't allow you to have content you're selling via them available for free elsewhere (i.e. Royalroad, and I think even here on Patreon?).

Thundermike00

omg this is really freaking annoying how you take stuff off of here and then put it on ryal road and then i go check that site and NOPE it got transferred to AMAZON. now i can never catchup. like whats the point of using this site to read your past chapters if your just going to switched them to amazon?
