I remember an old superpower in Dishonored 2 that lets you connect the fates of different people. Meaning what happens to one, the others connected also happens to them with either death or unconsciousness. Only in this case perhaps the beads let him connect the group together and let them share senses. Depends on the length in my opinion but you have already shown you can go back and make scenes longer so I say finish the book.
