Looks like we've finally mentioned the Svartfar from chapter 10. I, uh, really don't like how that went down. I don't mean to be rude or insulting. I like this story. So I'll try to be constructive and explain what my issue is. So. The existing version of the story had Leonidas pushing his way through the crowd as he approached the Adventurers' Guild. He then paused for a moment, lost in thought. Someone bumped against his shoulder. He hadn't sensed that person's mind and so was surprised. His PTSD kicked in. He was on a hair-trigger, so he responded to that surprise by *lifting the Svartfar up by their throat and drawing his blade, ready to run them through*. Because he was surprised. Holy moly. Yes, this scene really conveys how bad his PTSD is. When Leonidas later explains to Aylar that he's damaged, the reader is quick to agree with Leonidas given the recent evidence of just that. However. In real life, if a traumatised veteran reacted that way (as in, physically assaulting someone and drawing a lethal weapon), it would be a Big Deal. The veteran would be horrified by their own actions. It would force the veteran to acknowledge the fact that they're a danger to others. There would probably be police and/or lawyers (eww) involved. I feel that Leonidas seemed to brush it off almost immediately. Just totally brushed off the fact that he'd assaulted a passer-by that had surprised him. He apologised and then it wasn't mentioned again. We've not seen any consequences *at all* since then. We've not even seen him reflect on his own actions. There are lots of things that go some way to justify the lack consequences. In no particular order: There's the fact that people are less likely to press charges against a noble. Leonidas was already fully aware of just how badly damaged he was. Post-integration Earth is a far more dangerous place than our modern world, with a very different attitude towards violence. This scene was followed by a lot of other stuff - an important scene with Synthra, followed by an important scene with Aylar, followed by a dressing-down from Ceruviel, followed by a confrontation with the lingering mind of a frickin Storm Phoenix (a confrontation that had shredded nigh indestructible manastone) - so it's not like he's had a lot of time to mentally process things. Yes, I fully acknowledge that there are a lot of mitigating factors. But for his actions to not even warrant a *mention*? Like, not even a single line? Nuh uh. I don't think that it works. I think that the story would therefore be better if either his actions towards that Svartfar were dialled down (and there's a lot of room to dial down from "lifts stranger by the throat, draws blade"), or for his actions to be at least *mentioned*, even if it's only a single line in the privacy of his own head. Currently I just feel that the encounter is only a way to introduce the existance of mind-shielded Svartfenn, hence why it's entirely ignored except for that fact.

Thanks for the chapter. Assorted feedback: "Traveling with a Defier of Heavens did not seem to factor into his expectations for the immediate future" For a moment I misread this as "Defiler of Heavens". Heh. *Very* metal. Regarding Parnym... I like the red cross idea. A quick, culturally sensitive way to improve relations with the locals. Just, uh... Parnym? A word of advice for you, buddy. Make sure you never wear a red shirt. You're already in enough danger. If someone is going to get disintegrated it's certainly not going to be the MC or his two love interests. That leaves you and Bardulf, and Bardulf has had a hell of lot more lines than you have. I liked the fact that it was Ceruviel that was adding a Terran invective to Haelfennyr. Someone was going to do it, and of *course* it would be Ceruviel. "While in a [Party], all experience will be split based on contribution and net income, with 50% split evenly, and 50% divided based on contribution." Sorry, what does it mean by splitting the experience by based on "net income"? Is... is the system implementing an income tax? Refusing to give as much XP to people in a higher tax bracket? I don't follow. Also, I think you can drop the "all". It doesn't make sense of it to say that *all* experience will be split based on contribution (and income), and then to explain that *50%* of the experience will be split based on contribution.

Thanks for the chapter!

Chapter 17, I believe. She bumped into him on the street, but it wasn't Xarina. Just a Svartfar that may be from the Starhold. I won't reveal that yet.

Seemed like a good place to slot it in, it's free character exposition! Yeah, I want to dial into the political/ceremonial side of the story this novel.

Travis White

Am I missing something? When did the dark elf and Achilles interact?

Bryn

Thanks for the chapter! I like that anecdote about his grandfather hating stolen Valor. Also nice to see a bit of Archon ceremony
