it would have been interesting if Leo had charged up a one time use dagger with cataclysm mana to give to them for this exact situation (maybe with the princess' help)... we know it's super effective against hydras specifically, and might be able to give his side the edge against a Hydra if he can't engage it personally, especially because they don't seem to be especially rare lol. it would be another opportunity to show his foresight and concern for his subjects.

A very good chapter indeed, seeing the fights from the people involved’s POV is a great addition. I don’t think I see what had you up in shambles so much though, I don’t really think I have ever witnessed a truly bad chapter from you so far. There have only been the gripes I have with info dumping which I push through anyways.

It's not bad mind you but I'd wagor that any sense of forcedness or staleness or general meh vibes you're getting *could* be that. I don't mind anyway - I've rarely been a fan of action. I have liked most of what's in here but I think part of that is that the action is for short chapters; no need to dbz this. In the end this is me trying to provide the requested feedback - feel free to ignore or perhaps even delete! I'm overall happy with the book - this is just one of those *has to be here because the story demands it* chapters that I generally more skim then read.

I think it's fine. What the issue is is that by making 5 waves the reader is forced through action sequences where the outcomes and risks are known beforehand but it's important to the character. I'd argue that you could have gotten away with a highlight or a battlefield summary instead of showing the last few waves. Like after the POV for the archon apprentice whose name escapes me rn, cut to a new chapter with Leonidas bashing a wartable while going over reports with highlights of major events.
