Drea de Matteo seems like the coolest woman alive, tbh, love hearing a good story of hollywood red pilling
Lewis Nanna
Excellent discussion! Thank you.
Alex Waller
they literally turn people away without military experience. It doesn't benefit them to have a bunch of people who've never seen combat who can't speak the language. Long range precision weapons get the war over faster, reduce lives lost, and prevent further conflicts .
Nick @
Amazing legend
Stephen
And why don't you go try to volunteer and see if they turn you away? You sound like Dick Cheney fuck off to Ukraine if it's so important you warmonger.
Stephen
That's not what Fauci said.
Marko Mancic
Cool interview!
Thumperdinck
Haha Long live BEE. I’m voting Trump this year, not because he’ll make a good president. But because he’s the biggest rock one can find to throw at the dogshit stained glass windows of this faggoty liberal regime’s cathedral. I’m at the point now where I’m absolutely done with liberalism. I mean ALL of it. Everything from the enlightenment till present day. Throw that demon-baby out with the septic bath water it swims in. 🤮 Anybody who disagrees with this sentiment is living in the past. The age of liberalism is coming to an end. The future is very illiberal. Buckle up, buttercup!
Jorge Espinha
Ukraine: I read the histories of Russia and Poland, the biographies of Stalin and Lenin. The history of the Romanovs. The history of the WWII. So? My opinion about the war in Ukraine trumps less well read people ? I bet I have a very different opinion about it than the guest . My point is , you can read the same sources and have a different opinion.
Jorge Espinha
I like Bret’s conversations even when I disagree with the the guest. She’s an actress but because she doesn’t seem to have anything to lose, she’s interesting. However, RFK jr is a anti vaxxer all over the board. He peddles the nonsense the vaccines are connected to autism! He’s a loon! And I suspect she’s a bit less only too. Anyway, it’s always good interesting
Michael Bronspigel
Fantastic interview, but not long enough
Thomas Edwards
Where did it all go wrong?
Ben
Things WERE better... way back when.
BrienPiechos
Says NOW. They've edited and retconned the timeline so many times. We all know what they said first and how loud they said it.
Alex Waller
It may have been hyped that way in the media. But my dad worked for the Red Cross at the time and the understanding was always that it would reduce severity. That was my understanding when going to get the shot. Like it literally says that on the CDC's website
BrienPiechos
Guy, stop rewriting history. We can link hundreds of source material quotes of the media claiming the vaccine would prevent you from contracting and transmitting covid. This is not debatable.
BrienPiechos
Is it? The Ukrainian people are really behind the ethnically non-Ukrainian comedian the CIA coup put into their presidential office and the NATO forces that are using their country as a money washing scheme? You think they all want to die and be dispossessed for the opportunity to have their schools turned into LGBTQ indoctrination camps and be propagandized to about how they are evil for being White? Yeah, I'm sure the Ukrainian people are super excited to become a completely hollowed out slave state to NATO forces with a spiritually broken populace like Germany is. What an opportunity.
Alex Waller
the vaccine was supposed to prevent people from going to the hospital. Again, the entire concern was around overwhelming the medical system. When I got it I was never under the impression I couldn't get covid or give it to someone else. Ukraine needs certain long range weapons systems from the US, they're not asking for manpower
Stephen
People got fired for not getting the vaccine. And the vaccine was supposed to prevent people from getting COVID, hence the term vaccine. And if you think Ukraine needs our support so badly why don't you fly over and fight?
Alex Waller
What I don't like about is that these things are coming in a package deal. Bret's and Drea's primary opposition is to political correctness/wokeness. This is true with so many people. What I don't understand is where vaccines and Ukraine come into the picture. I can pretty much guarantee that whatever was about to come out of Drea's mouth about Ukraine was going to be pure misinformation and deflection, and whatever 'research' was done was simply to find a contrarian viewpoint. There is no defending what is going on there and it is extremely important to support the Ukrainians in their fight not only for their sake but for ours. There are atrocities committed there every day and have been for 2 years now, showing support for it is not 'virtue signaling'. Allowing that situation to go on could have all sorts of negative effects on global stability. I personally believe in getting the vaccine but am fine with people not getting it. The only point of lockdowns was to keep hospitals from getting overcrowded, and the vaccine's only real purpose was to keep people out of the hospital if they got covid. Now that the threat of overcrowding is no longer an issue I don't see a point in harassing people who didn't get the shot by not offering them employment. That sounds more like a Hollywood thing as I don't believe the vast majority of employers would check that at this point.
BrienPiechos
Not an argument.
Justin
CASE. IN. POINT.
BrienPiechos
And how are you not angry about the entire electoral system being overhauled to allow absolute loads of fraud? And don't give me this "Trump lost in court there's no proof" bullshit because he won 8 of 10 cases and the biggest ones were summarily dismissed by liberal judges claiming lack of standing, which we all know is the kritachy's version of "resisting arrest." Even the SCOTUS refused based on the excuse that there would be "no remedy" if Trump won. No fucking remedy. As in they can't recall a President who is found to have cheated. Those are the facts. Cheat, win, get caught, too late doesn't matter, go ahead and destroy the country. Yeah, I'm angry.
Brian Burke
So great… She’s terrific.
Brian Borough
How are you NOT angry? People lost their livelihoods and careers because of vax mandates. You couldn’t get a sandwich at a diner in New York City without proof of injection.
BrienPiechos
Never implied anything remotely suggesting enlightenment. Typical leftist straw manning.
Justin
For someone so “enlightened” you sure are angry.
BrienPiechos
Ok leftist.
BrienPiechos
Stupid comment.
BrienPiechos
NATO is the bad guy. American has ALWAYS been the bad guy. You are out of your element Lionel.
BrienPiechos
You weren't listening.
BrienPiechos
For real. She chose to be measured and not sperg out. I think the left have a lot of difficulty seeing right wingers who are actually intelligent, well spoken people when they are fed a nonstop stream of caricatures by the media designed to undermine common sense.
BrienPiechos
She comes off as an intelligent, down to earth person and was very measured in how she addressed the covid nonsense. Personally I would have had much harsher words pertaining to Don Lemon, BLM, the victim of his own overdose named George Floyd, and can only assume you're all just jealous that this gal has more balls than you. Has to be difficult being so dimwitted you let the media coerce you into taking an experimental shot after that same media has done nothing but lie your entire lives. If you can't see that pattern you've got a single digit IQ.
WOLF STAR
A great conversation and I thought she was great. The anti-vax stuff was very cringe but nonetheless I enjoyed the episode.
sasha
I don’t understand how no one’s realized Saltburn is a one-note zoomer movie designed to inspire tiktoks and pinterest boards and playlists and not much else and that nothing about it calls attention to anyone above the age of 25. My parents who are about Bret’s age and keep up with new media consistently somehow didn’t even know it had come out. I really don’t understand it’s like the filmic equivalent of that high-pitched screech that only teenagers and or dogs can hear
sasha
Not really and i wish it had come out all at once so i would have given it a chance and then dropped it after realizing it was mid, it coming out weekly has given it this bizarre inertia where i’m tuning in weekly even though i know it sucks just in case it gets better
Paul Richardson
I’m curious about that also. My guess is he won’t like it.
Moz
Comfortably the worst picture of 2023
Emily B
Can’t believe you caught me being reply guy
Emily B
Shawty I am lurking for the next ep like Wednesdays are bleak enough……
David Lowe
I think it was "Sleeping with Strangers: How the Movies Shaped Desire" by David Thomson
GC
He hasn't mentioned Saltburn either. I'm gonna guess he'll either quite like or really like it...
GC
You must have missed a show, he's admitted to it, but perhaps not recently as he pretends (and he is pretending) to be down with the anti-vaxxers...
Justin
I went in thinking I was going to enjoy it, but I gave up after 3 or 4 episodes. Does it get better?
Alexander Quattlander
Really? I dont recall him mentioning at all especially "many times."
GC
He is vaxxed, has mentioned it many times.
TheRealAudreyHorne
I wonder if Bret is watching The Curse?
GC
Yes, that was so weird, I thought Bret would be all over that! Drea is a badass and I admired her honesty about raising her kids and leaving ‘the industry’ behind. The anti-vax stuff, though, is drivel.
Chris De Burgha
Damn bret really put her off some very juicy topics here. Was screaming when she was about to go off on the many saints of Newark and he pulled her back
Justin
Why? He’s more or less apolitical. Assuming people are “leftist” because they don’t agree with you is simply naive.
Christo Mondavi
Amazed at how many ignorant leftists still keep up with Bret.
Stevan Popovic
Great podcast.
Frenk van Harreveld
Why do anti-vax, Trump supporting conspiracy theorists continue to insist they are not political?
Moz
This, exactly
Ashley
“Sleeping With Strangers; How the Movies Shaped Desire” by David Thomson?
Alexander Quattlander
Damn she's a fucking kewl chick. I coulda listened to her on a two parter. Funny Bret read the Fauci book. He must not be vaxxed.
Kevin O Lanre
I NEED SEASONED LISTENER HELP! Ive been trying to remember an episode Bret had with a writer or about a book on how Hollywood lied to us, in terms of romance and life in general. Or how the movies led us to believe… can’t remember if it was a guest Bret had on or a book he spoke about. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I need to find that book! I thought it may have been one of Peter Biskind’s books but I don’t think it is. HELP ANYONE?
Graeme
Me at the start - oh cool they are not just going to talk about the Sopranos Me after hearing one hour of the guest howling at the moon - man, wish they had just spoke about the Sopranos
Keith campbell
Any oenophiles figure out which Italian wine company she was referring to ?
Erick
Great podcast more of her anytime!
Brian Borough
They’re talking about the usual suspects that predictably added Ukraine flags to their social media and immediately bought miniature Ukraine flags on Amazon and plastered their houses with them. Most of the flags are now gone since the media doesn’t care about Ukraine anymore.
Brian Borough
This was refreshing to hear. She’s not a rocket scientist but she’s describing what many Americans are dealing with and how former liberals and life long dems are feeling. Most people just want to continue living life with their head up their ass and don’t feel the need for self reflection or to question how bizarre people and the world have gotten.
Brian Borough
What truths are you having trouble understanding? That BLM was a scam? That the vax mandates were wrong? That men are men and women are women? They didn’t tip toe around anything and it was fairly obvious what the topics of discussion were.
PETER GREER
Wow wow one of the best …..
Brian Borough
how so?
Knokkel knokkel
Great pod
Lionel
Do you actually believe that tripe ? Russia is trying to bomb Ukraine out of existence…. They are conducting a genocidal campaign, a long list of horrible war crimes… and NATO are the bad guy ?
Sebastian ospina
I’m just a girl from queens 🤪 (just ignore the private schools and limos)
Dave
Enjoyed this episode. The themes Drea covered resonate. Glad that Adam joined at the conclusion to point out the Waylon Jennings connection!
Happyhead
But she didn’t even really say anything
Happyhead
It seems like BEE wanted to be besties with her but she was totally one note and fake friendly the whole episode, just agreeing with him on everything and anything but not saying much other than “look I’m just an Italian from Queens” 300 times even though she grew up in Manhattan and has been a TV star living in LA for years and years
BrienPiechos
Well why would you support the illegitimate Ukrainian government's (run by a non-Uranian who the CIA put in) decision to feed their people into a meat grinder against their ethnic brothers in a conflict that only benefits the disgusting powers of globalism, forever destroying the ethnic demographics and culture of their country, and destroying their infrastructure just because NATO wants to be belligerent towards Russia, secure gas mining for an energy corporation, as well as secure cheap farmland so they can continue disenfranchising the American farmer, and of course continue laundering money they steal from American taxpayers? I support every Ukrainian soldier who wants to defect. NATO needs to fuck off and stop exporting their degenerate culture at the end of a rifle.
CoffeePlease
The were fewer grievances in six seasons of the Sopranos than in this episode.
Wil Kelly
🤮
Adam Skorupskas
this was painful
Lionel
Well said
R. M.
“I have to sleep at night. I can’t become a pod person” Bret Easton Ellis Amen to that. Take note brainwashed wackadoos.
Justin
It’s funny how people who claim to have “risen above” groupthink/propaganda always end up espousing said propaganda.
Lionel
I also heard Joe Rogan say that people only support Ukraine in order to virtue signal….
Shaianne
hi emily 😍
John Q. Thompson
Oh my God, I feel so stupid now. I'm a huge "Sopranos" fan and just didn't put it together haha.. Shame on me.
N.M. Janice.
Haha, It’s a Sopranos quote. Tony says it to Christopher about Adriana.
Brian James
I second that suggestion!
Vin Bravo
Ahh. I’m the fool here Guess just a little overprotective of Bret and the show.
Iain
It’s a Sopranos reference. Tony talking to Christopher regarding Adriana (Drew’s character). If memory serves.
Emily B
I agree but I’d rather beat the horse dead some more than listen to her vaccination status 🤷♀️
John Q. Thompson
Yeah, I'm not sure what that was supposed to mean either. I'd be shocked if she wasn't already doing the convention circuit. I mean if you're making the rounds, doing conventions it's not out of the realm to get someone like that for a podcast appearance.
John Q. Thompson
But really what more could you say about it that hasn't been said in the countless other podcasts, interviews, books and bonus materials in the blu-ray boxset? If you'd like more I guess I'd go check out the podcast she was referring to here in this interview.
Jeremy goodwin
Save the Robots? The song by the Disco Biscuits is about a coke bar in the city? Mind blown for the first time in 24.
NiceNeverKnowingU
This was a brilliant episode! Glad to hear Drea speaking her truth unapologetically. Loved her on The Sopranos and I loved her in this interview. My respect for her grew even more!
Justin
For real. I’ve never heard someone talk about “the truth” without saying anything.
Chase
Hmu baby
Emily B
I wish they talked about the sopranos instead of “the truth”
Vin Bravo
Huh? Whats the context around this? Bret’s had guests like Tarantino, handfuls of legendary film directors and others with creative legacies and bodies of work in different universes than Drea (no disrespect). Good get but it’s not remotely punching above his or this shows weight.
richard owain roberts
am going to listen on my run. will say more later, after my run.
John Q. Thompson
Would very much love to hear Abel Ferrara on here discussing his career and partying in NY in the 80's & 90's.
Justin Gerber
Well, it was a good run for a bit there.
Casey
Nice get! Would love to hear some stories about working with Abel Ferrara and Lillo Brancato on ‘R Xmas.
Anthony Giancola
Interesting interview, but I truly don’t think I’ve heard someone make more declarative statements about “the facts” and “the truth” without going into specificity on what they were talking about.
Ashley
Great episode! was sad to hear the Eagles question, meaning no part 2
N.M. Janice.
Well, frankly, you scored so far over your head when you got her, what do you expect?
