Who is crying? I am not crying! you are crying! T.T

Mecanimus

Hehe. Comments like this really make my day, thank you.

Pierre Steiner

I hope this was a satisfactory read for anybody that understands french, do point out any typos, I want to do justice to the original :) (oh and should Mecanimus want to use it for any purpose, or have me remove it, it is yours to begin with as far as I'm concerned)

Pierre Steiner

For anyone that would like to appreciate the charm of Ariane's Papa's letter in French, I shall take it upon myself to translate it to the best of my ability, may it spark some interest or some form of deeper immersion! (see reply to this comm for translation)

Pierre Steiner

Oh my god man, is it legal to be such an excellent writer? You're doing something great here, really.

Mecanimus

I will avoid direct contacts with famous historical figures for this reason among others.

Robby Cahyadi

thank you! such a tearjerking chapter

Mecanimus

Bingle, and no he just has a good memory and a curious mind.

Mecanimus

It's always gratifying to make my readers feel something.

Mecanimus

Well, it's relative, ain't it?

Morog T Tiny

family... you can have more than one. I will note as she moves through the 1850s in your world that there were continued complexities. Lincoln for example while considered a hero today is just another example of the winners write the history. A deeply flawed man but this is true of many of the people held forth as examples. Few of those that are held forth as true hero's, really were, unfortunately. like the previous governor in this story.

I think she read the letter on the box and has yet to open the one Achilles gave her

Joe ?

I think her father employed his extended family as servants instead? I remember it being said very early on in the story that her dad didn't have any slaves.

Jonathan

Loved the chapter. Though thought it was a little confusing with the 2nd letter. Did she open the 2nd letter on the box or was what she read the 1st from Achille that he said was from her father? Could just have the box in the center of a cleared desk though it does split the gift and I do like having them together better. But if together it does't mesh as well with Achille deciding to give it to her. May change the letter by the box to a card with her name on the box?

Andrew

Thank you!

Young Youghurt

So is her cousin bending fate? Like Bingley (Bagel??) or what was his name?

carebear90

I liked that lighthearted bit in the end. It really helped after 2 sobbing scenes like this. I'm looking forward to seeing more of her family in the future. ^^

carebear90

So... just a simple question... Where are the slaves? I mean... I'd expect a family like hers to have had at least some. They're wealthy enough that her father could aquire this stupidly expensive probably very restricted amongst mortals glove for her before he died. They don't seem to be poor farmers. Don't get me wrong, I didn't expect that to play any major role in this chapter. I just find it a bit strange that this wasn't mentioned at all. Considering Ari's own views on the topic I wouldn't expect her to just not notice them during her visit, if there are any.

Garbled Sounds

Loved it.

Anghwrtais

Lucien rocks.

Jed Wolfgang

Ooooh. Good observation!

Michael

Ugh indeed. (Some) Relatives are just the worst!

Daryl McGuire

An absolutely beautiful chapter! The letter from her father...I definitely didn't tear up.

L Pedersen

This was an awesome inbetween chapter, I love that you keep up with her mortal family as time passes. It's also going to become quite interesting in about 20 years because Ari will be a vampire whose territory is in the north while her mortal family are in the south. Maybe the civil war arc will be more personal to her than I had thought :P

Svensonsen

Heartwarming

Meise

I 2nd this

Jed Wolfgang

Good chappy. I do hope she has another encounter with her family. Particularly, June and Lucian.

MacDB

The feeeeels!

Redbeard

A beautiful chapter!
