I think the main problem with guns in this country (as well as a great deal of other potentially dangerous things), is mainly lack of education. There are like 3 rules to gun safety... Treat every gun as if it's loaded, keep your finger off the trigger until you're ready to shoot, never point a gun at something you aren't willing to destroy ( including what's behind it). That's it. Guns are very safe in the hands of anyone with a bit of training and a bit of competence. Frankly school children in this country should get gun safety training as part of their education. They're likely to see one in their life, so they should know both how to be safe around one, and how to tell when someone else isn't. The first time i shot a gun i was 5 years old. The first time i harvested a big game animal i was 10. I had gun safety rules drilled into my head for a decade. My parents finally trusted me alone around them when i was 14. I'm all for guns but if you don't know the rules, you should learn before you get one.

I love these stories that take place between 30k and 40k. Especially since it's not directly someone's fault from the outside and we see more of how the imperium is deteriorating.
