Cormac

Wow, almost as scary as the Nordschleife. (The other Green Hell)

Addanc

*waiting impatiently for the next chapter*

Nicholas Grey

remind me what the deal was with the butterflies?

Gwendolyn Simmons-LaRose

I've been waiting for the butterflies to be summoned since I got into this chapter. The sap bombs were where I thought it'd come, but no, it was exactly where I hoped - and dreaded - it would be.

Bobs

Love the chapter, thanks!

Mecanimus

You remember the chapter with the green dragon? It’s that one.

fbt

I don't remember the butterflies; can anyone remind me (or cite the chap#)? been awhile, and I'm juggling a lot of stories. Tried searching the pdfs but didn't find anything.

Mecanimus

Of course. No it was meant to express sensory overload.

Mecanimus

Oh yes he is taking notes.

Mecanimus

Sooooooon

Mecanimus

Exactly…

Mecanimus

That’s truly vicious and much less fun when it happens for real.

Mecanimus

Hehe!

Mecanimus

Harrakans were really good at war though historically they relied on superior training and equipment and a systematic approach to war. Look at me ranting about my lore lol. Let’s just say they relied less on guérilla.

Mecanimus

Journey first lol. Then yes.

jcox

"Talan had no nose... ears... eyes." Is that supposed to be talking about Ormin? Also, forcing everybody to fight naked and then lighting them on fire /is/ a pretty high level of dickery :)

Torbjørn Nilsen

Why not both?

BurnNote

So, I'm wondering what those magic cycles at the camp sites are. I doubt Viv expected them to not notice. My guess: It doesn't do anything except let Viv know when they're dispelled, so she can easily track their progress. Alternatively, eventually, dispelling them will be the trigger for a trap, and this is to get them used to those.

Aclys

Yeah that's the punchline, if they had gotten there in top shape? They'd be far more likely to win but it would still have been a Battle. At this point I'm having hope they wont even make it that far or, when they do... it'll be the stomping these assholes so richly deserve.

Heraclitus

Solfis must be so proud.

tibbish

It would work but I dunno if it'd be better than killing the sentries alone. After 2-3 days of little to no sleep you'll start to get visual hallucinations out of the corners of your eyes. Your muscle motor control will drop to being roughly on par with someone mildly to moderately drunk. So will your judgement and reaction time too. Sleep is pretty critical for keeping yourself going in top condition so yeah its totally effective to deny the enemy theirs to make them suck on the day of battle. Personally I'd try to do both if possible.

luda305

Unflinching

Young Youghurt

I wonder if drumming hidden in the jungle during the nights wouldn't be better than killing sentries? I mean yeah that is really unnerving because they just disappeared but depriving the whole army of sleep seems more beneficial. (Though I don't know if it would work as I have never ever tried to do it.)

Young Youghurt

I don't know man. If you quickly kill everyone, perhaps trough some giant super weapon bomb, will it be more just than if you kill ten people during ten days? It seems to me that this generalisation is incomplete or something.

Jon

Hahaha! That's right, motherfuckers, war is hell and Viv is giving you a first rate demonstration of why you should have stayed out of the woods. I loved this chapter. The deterioration of Talan's morale and mental state from start to finish has been amazing. Can't wait for the next chapter!

Johannes Oest

It would make him look weak and if he doesn't want to loose the support of his goddess he can't do that. And it was said that they can create enough water with magic to have enough to drink. Just not for anything else. So they might be very thirsty but they won't die from it.

tibbish

Shit these guys might not even make it to the city at this rate. Little or no water in a harsh environment is a nasty slow death. Wouldn't be shocked if the Prince decided he had to go back up the trail a day or 2 in order to send a message or something for more men or supplies and just never came back. Abandoning his men to die seems right up his alley.

Tjark

You know it would be even better if there really were butterflys in there.

j0ntsa

The door shield user gonna love this cause she can learn sooo much

j0ntsa

Why i was smirking and giggling whole time when i read this?

Will C

The lovely irony is there all dreaming of getting through the woods so they can engage the rebels and wild men. Then they arrive to find blocks of heavy infantry and an organised force.

Deinos

Damn love it! Reads like some vietnam story hehe.

Andrew

Thank you!

InkyBusiness

A quite lovely montage of a small army literally getting decimated by guerilla tactics, I love it! What's detestable thing to do, to leave us with a half finished off army and one of the worst cliffhangers evuur! ;)

Morog T Tiny

I remember reading about the war in Rhodesia back in the day... The commies would bag up bees and unleash them on Portuguese truck convoys. Land mines every where. officers traveled without insignia... An army boot left in the middle of the road filled with chicken blood. When it was brought back to show the officer, sniper fire. War is hell.

Adrian Gorgey

amazing

Vorquel

War is hell. The closest thing to a just war is a quick one, only because it limits the casualties. Sometimes the evil is necessary, but that does not make it any less evil.

marids

This chapter was Fantastic! Viv bringing Modern Warfare to this world! WOOHOO!!! I also can't imagine how happy Solfis would be at her developing every step closer towards getting the Genocidal Maniac Skill! He must be So proud! Haha! I do wonder though if these tactics were ever used by the Harrakans. Not that I'd ever dare imagine them as primitive in the logical art of war, but rather to what degree of creativity they went to for this kind of hell without the experiences on earth, since war from humans against humans happened much more often without monsters discouraging warfare between humans and all that.

Addanc

I need the next chapter

StarWolf

You do realize that for thousands of years humanity has waged war without silly little terms like war crimes, acceptable losses, urban pacification, and to many other politically correct terms to count. War is war, just make the other guy die for his god, country, political agenda and then salt the ground and go home.

william wallace

Jesus f-ing christ. Guess Viv should add war criminal to her status. Now I’ve got to wait to find out just how horribly she fucks up the stoned army (of course those could really be magical butterflies of doom as opposed to hallucinations but either way its going to suck for the army). Im assuming that this was just the appetizer for the many course meal of suffering. Here I was hoping for a journey chapter. Thank you for your twisted mind. May it continue to entertain. I award you ten points spend them as you wish.

Bunny Waffles

And so Viv introduces them to the wonderful world of fucked up tactics that we on Earth devised and perfected in the endeavor to slowly bleed a force invading your homeground, of taking them apart piece by tiny piece and grinding their morale down until there is naught but broken dreams and shattered promises. Welcome to Fantasy Vietnam.

Torbjørn Nilsen

It's a Dragon!

Mecanimus

F... fast!

Mecanimus

It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's a squadron of highly explosive insects. PS: I did not wait for proofreading because I was excited to share so might be rougher than usual. PPS: War is hell. PPPS: For them.

FormlessChimera

Thanks for the Chapter!
