I think the Idea is that the ranged units retreat if threatened by melee. And because of the overall checkerboard if enemies try to move between squares they can be shot from the front and sides which makes moving inside the checkerboard a very bad idea. How exactly everything works especially how the ranged units in front of the pikes retreat I wasn't able to find out. I'm pretty sure there was a solution to frontal melee attacks. But I get your idea. Kinda like a combined arms approach instead of separating the different troops.

Mecanimus

Yes but it works right until the enemies charge, then having the ranged units on the outside is usually a bad idea. It's also a merger with Harrakan doctrine not an actual Tercio. The idea was to have the formations combine rather than have successive line as is the tradition on Param at the start of the story.

Desponark

I just read up on the Tercio and it seems the Pikes where on the inside while surrounded by guns. Before battle, these firearm units would be deployed to the four corners of the formation, but in battle they could go wherever they were needed. EDIT: I also read that there was firearm troops directly surrounding the enemy facing side of the pikes plus firearm squares at the four corners. Having ranged troops surrounded by melee troops doesn't really work well without some kind of elevation. Summary: The pikes were definitely a square in the middle while surrounded by the ranged troops. Multiple of those Tercios then arrayed in checkerboard formation as an army for overlapping cones of fire. I don't expect you to change it. I just wanted to let you know :D )

“ feed tha large” “that basic piece” “ Whe they returned” errors that need fixing.

No I dislike TWI although I acknowledge it's a work of genius.

Hoepfully Sangor remembers the last two princes of Enoria to challenge her during this meeting. Obviously she needs to conquer Hellock and mount the councils heads on Pikes.

Someone's been reading The wandering inn perhaps ? "Is this war" and "the black tide" seem like references :)

Thanks for the chapter. Great as always.

I don’t think the King will do something stupid, but I want to see a hat trick
