Mecanimus

Her priority is to stay alive and fighting D class monsters with a sword in her human form is suicide. She’s a pragmatist before being a blade master. In the meta aspect, this is to show how she can keep up with d class monsters with the use of proper embers thanks to her training and discipline… but she’s still close to baseline.

Eleeyah

Is there any particular reason she doesn't have a sword with her during the hike? Cause that'd be just...you know, *her*? It's kind of an integral trait of Nestra's, and not seeing with her lessens the experience, to be honest. Also, we haven't seen her swordfight as a human forever now, and that's kind of sad. It *was* her signature weapon when she was still with Maxsec, so... This would've been the perfect opportunity to let that powerfantasy breathe. Finally...I cannot reasonably believe that she wouldn't bring her favorite weapon along, when all she has otherwise are a limited number of bullets and slugs. It just doesn't make sense. It doesn't fit Nestra, and it doesn't work.

I'm glad Nestra didn't let Ilar push her around. Leveraging her assistance for help with Kim was a smart move. Between Ilar, Ragnarok, and Yun, she actually has some good connections too. Thanks for the chapter!

StarWolf

Wouldn’t know. I am a member of way too many discord servers and channels as it is.

NoReTr3aT

Wasn't there a Discord post?

NoReTr3aT

Not gonna lie, I fucking love Changeling.

Jed Wolfgang

Sooo good.

StarWolf

Mecanimus - might want to let folks know the next book of Journey is available!

Cormac

I was wondering if/hoping Nestra would go this route. What's the point of having connections in high places if you don't make use of them? Good chappy.

Mecanimus

I’ll add that Nestra is a battle maniac who would never refuse the opportunity to shoot something dead, especially if that something mistakenly believes it is more dangerous.

Orange Thistle

Thanks for the chapter. Definitely one way to go up the hierarchy ladder.

riseris

Hurray, I called it that Ito and Shinoda’s widow were connected. Also it’s quite possible it’s not just the funeral thing. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a number of events before the widow decided to ask for Kim to be removed.

riseris

Ito is being arrogant. Extremely so. No matter what he might think, he can’t touch her family. He can go after her other acquaintances but if he does so well, Seth will protect Nestra’s girl friend. Which really just leaves George and his family. From what we know the Palladian family is close to the top of the city when it comes to gleams. Ito might have more political authority, but if we are talking about actual might makes right authority, I don’t think they are in the same league.

Kota

Being asked to hand in her gun and badge ... ah, the classics. You're a loose cannon, Palladian! Some thoughts on Threshold bureaucracy ... is Ito really a department head, and is Nestra, as basically the lowest level grunt, only two steps below him? If that's the case, either Financial Crimes has crazy good administration to get by with so few hierarchical steps overseeing an entire department, or it is really that small. Maybe a combination of both? And who thought it was a good idea to allow a Department to investigate its own members? If things were run decently there, Ito investigating his own subordinate (let alone imprisoning her) would at least make him incredibly vulnerable. The fact that it apparently doesn't suggests Threshold isn't that great at combating corruption, and that Deputy Chief Sangah doesn't have an easy job. As for Nestra's conversation with Ito ... I'm wondering whether she spends enough thought on the threat the man represents. Because he's right, he can do much worse than getting her fired, as Kim's current predicament demonstrates, and I'm not sure Nestra's family connections could protect her from that. Either Nestra nips this one in the bud, or she might just find out the hard way... I get the feeling her greatest advantage over the man is all the things he doesn't know about her, but if he starts digging in earnest, things might get quite ugly. Lastly, I never expected Nestra would rather reveal her identity to Ragnarok than go to her dad for help. Sheesh, even with the progress she made recently, clearly some bridges are yet to be mended... All in all, another great chapter, leaving me as hungry for more as Nestra hungers for Seth's next delicacies!

Enkelados

I was wondering the same. I see a lot of downsides in this job with little upsides. My best guess is that she enjoys the challenge and to stick it to the enclave. We have seen multiple times that spite is a powerful motivation for her.

joey

She doesn't really have a choice. If she denied it she would lose her job. She doesn't get anything out of it, besides changing departments.

Dragon Earth

She knows Fox Mask is working for the enclave that the mission is going to. Plus she might be able to get some more gleam cores if things go weird.

Mantarok1205

Jolly good!

Deinos

Hmm don't want to be obnoxious but did you really read my question? I know she wants to do it and I also that she can't get pressured. My question was What does she get out of this one time gig.

Jamarr

He couldn't intimidate her because she doesn't need the job, she didn't refuse out of hand because she wants the job. She could get a stipend from her family and retire human Nestra at any time, she chooses not to because she enjoys applying violence for the good of society as a part of law enforcement.

nick

I am betting the secretary Ragnarok was talking to at Crescent's initial evaluation was actually Seth

Deinos

I wonder, what does she get out of doing llar's bidding. So far it sounds like she ( in case she were human) is risking her life, expending money and resources for nothing in return, she could've simply declined for the exact same reasons why he couldn't intimidate her. I mean it could've been for the off-chance that he'd help but since he didn't I'd want to get something else out of it.

phantom

I am guessing Seth wanted her to learn a lesson here.

phantom

It is indeed one way to leap up authority.

Andrew

Thank you!

DAK

-‘You may leave at your convenience.’ That meant now- Heh. She still knows a dismissal when she hears it. Keep picking up those social cue, Nestra!

WarStrider72

Hahaha, Nestra thought she was so smooth hiding her identity

pheonix89

Ah, yes, Ragnarok *would* basically be god if she goes on the warpath.

Leviathon251

Holey!! Was not expecting that. I won't lie

WarStrider72

Thanks boss!
