LOL! SO, so true! It definitely made ME chuckle! Sometimes, I'm sad that there isn't much French swearing in the series (especially in the beginning of the series) because you think it would be the default for a French woman straight from the military! I know when I am at my angriest and most frustrated, I revert to my first language- then second, then third!

Roland Haller

“Et bah putain,” was the most French thing she could have said. That’s perfect.

Sgt. Tibs

Bad princess! Don't recreate the military industrial complex in a new world please.

Andrew

Thank you!

Gibborim

Nous is very clear that Viv is the first Elemental Archmage of the Black. "It's also possible that this other black caster like awoke and became a black elemental since Viv did" No, just no. Why would it possibly be that when the old Empress becoming a Lich in the disaster would make infinitely more sense?

Sæþór

Tftc!

Adurna

I honestly thought it was pretty neat to not be in Viv's head for it and instead have that view in a later tougher challenge when Viv is more isolated.

Elaine

good chappie

D

Hah, thought the same. Also it happens so often, by now it feels a bit like mage is not only a class description, but also a word meant to descripe all mage users as a whole.

D

Well, we still dont know whats under harrak. She only dedected a massive powersource, made of all the live taken. So the empress might not be a black elemental. Who knows what they wanted to do in the first place? Maybe that was their shot at godhood and now she is something 'inbetween' (coudnt resist ^_^).

Clifton

From a quick look: - Chapter 127 The Gates of Hell, first mention, no count of stages. - Chapter 128 Fourth Step Caster, selected, no stages yet. - Chapter 170 The Queen of the Sea, stage 2/5 achieved after beheading the sea monster. This was edited as the original Patreon number was 1/4. - Chapter 184 The Two Empires, she 'progressed on the Ascender path' without a number provided after getting her fourth aspect. - Chapter 210 The First One, stage 3/5 achieved with Elemental body. While I couldn't find anything outside these chapters, chapters 171-176 aren't on Patreon anymore except as condensed files. I did a quick search, but found no mention of 'Ascender'.

Lijwent

It's also possible that this other black caster like awoke and became a black elemental since Viv did, and because they had vastly more experience with black man, they adapted faster

Jamarr

I think the golem kids have Solfis' practical knowledge and not his personal experiences. He invested his knowledge of architecture and not the precise layout of the palace. Even if they have the required knowledge, they are intelligent but not necessarily wise. I trust Solfis to find a loophole in any directives the former Emperess might use to control him, just like he found the loophole that allowed him to follow Viv in the first book.

Clifton

Depends which rules he imposed. The initial problen was too many, so Solfis picked a smaller number. Gotta assume he put loyalty to the Empire as one.

Clifton

I thought the problem was he wasn't allowed to charge himself, since that was another control on golems. He resorted to taking charged cores from other golems as it wasn't directly prohibited. If the environment could charge him he never would have had to abandon his original chassis as when Viv found him. If it was mentioned the concentration had increased (can't honestly recall) I'd still think he'd be in trouble unless it is something that wasn't considered possible by the golem engineers, so not explicitly banned.

Clifton

Military agricultural complex?

Clifton

Would they consider her more dangerous though? Probably not. What really changed from their perspective? She was already immune to poison, protected by the best assassins, had a distressingly strong army, had golems, and tanks. So she can now turn into mana - not honestly much of a change, strategically.

Senko

Remember Harrack tends to deploy small elite units rather than large armies. Think of it not as 57 dead soldiers but 57 destroyed tanks/battleships.

Senko

I don't think that can happen. She already hit the maximum on the danger scale when she and Arthur responded to the councils betrayal of their agreement with her. The only way to raise it would be a new scale. This would however confirm the rating.

Senko

That's twice now Birck has saved her. First by refusing to run from the serpent people and allowing her to regain her will to oppose them. Now by singing to bring her home. Her mother may not be right about the gods living simple people but I suspect a special place in the afterlife is reserved for her.

No War Profiteering Arthur

The Uub

You all are forgetting, the Harrakan forces are top heavy. There are more elites in Bob's army than there are in other Paramese Alliance armies, but Harrakan forces lack the numbers in rank and file. Meaning instead of the amount of soldiers they can field being a deterrent, (which isn't many considering the amount other nations can field) their elites numbers are comparable to nations 3-4 times their size, which gives them a qualitative edge per fighter on the field. Even the Baramese King, who fielded the largest single army against the lizard-folk, was convinced by his spy master not to push New Harrak with a conventional military campaign.

The Uub

He is supposing that the power behind the undead horde rush is another black elemental caster, when Nous, who is the interface to the system, has told Bob she was the first black elemental caster. Nous would be the only being which would know for sure.

David Morrison

A Brlit more humanising of Brick would be nice too

Roombot

Military-farmdustrial complex

wanderer117

I thought she discovered necromantic farming. Gather undead in one place. End them. Set up farm on remains. Profit

wanderer117

Why wouldn't Viv just take all the golems that aren't hard coded? Well, all the ones with relevant knowledge. Collectively they have all of Solfis' knowledge and none of his hard coded limitations.

David Morrison

Elaborating on how Brick's song caught and grounded Viv would be nice. The council at the end of the chapter implies it's her own team, not the alliance. Doesn't the alliance arc need to be wrapped up before she heads to the capital

tr13ze

Thanks for the chapter 😁

BelligerentGnu

Oh Brick. That one pulled my heartstrings. And I loved Entikku.

Joshua Aarons

Great chapter. God I miss reading me some TCB!

Alexander Dupree

Well now we're gonna see Arthur get into conquest for plunder!

David Johnson

Wasn't Viv already at 3/5 progress on ascender? Or am I misremembering?

Denva

Can you elaborate

Tsorov

change things, it would help ehr change things. -> Her

Denva

No. His core has always had the ability to absorb mana from the environment but only at at certain saturations. The mana in the capital has increased, to the point he can just absorb it. Remember he was able to do this in the capital too at the beginning of the collapse, it's just that as time when on the mana slowly became less and he had to resort to taking from his golem friends. This ability was also shown when fighting the necromancers. When they used spells on him he just absorbed them passively without Viv ordering him to. It's his core ability that makes him a hard counter to mages because he will just eat mana sent his way.

NoReTr3aT

Finally some more Solfis soon. Missed the duo.

Gaëtan Hillion

Curious to have Viv don a pink mage robe for this battle, it just lack a green ogre ^^.

Gibborim

Well, this chapter should put to rest the speculation of the "Maybe Nous is just wrong/a liar about Viv being the first elemental archmage" crowd. Now they'd have to pretend that Enttiku is also incompetent!

SDCard

Thanks for the chapter!

Flippu

The mana concentration was going to be so thick that he would basically just need to ‘vent’ his core every minute or so, and his reserves would improve by just standing there. Wasn't he dying at the start of the series due to insufficent reserves...?

lenkite

It was only 50k undead killed also. The vast majority was broken out of the enemy's control. Frankly, a full 200 feet [Wall of Night] should have built beyond Sinur's gate after Viv identified the cause of the fall of Harrak.

Torbjørn Nilsen

There were multiple other armies, right? Or do I need a reread? Been a while. The most powerful mages were the Harrakans. So this means a minimal amount would have gotten through their lines to hit the toughest military in the world. The other armies might have been butchered?

lenkite

"You are a mage, young one" Shouldn't this be "You are a witch, young one" ?

James Faulkner

I mean, they’re also one of the strongest (if not THE strongest) militaries on the continent with some of the strongest mages in hundreds of years as part of their lineup. Additionally they have weapons/spells seen nowhere else

LenoraeKB

A darker day even than when she learned of compound interest.

LenoraeKB

Yeah that felt a bit off to me based off the size of the battle and the description of the occasional necrach rampaging briefly

T'Ericka

Their population is low considering

Tehd11

Hail Brick!

Unwillingmainer

Very nice. Help from the oldest and surest goddess and help from the simplest soldier she has. Both necessary for victory today. And now a battle with her oldest friend at her side.

Roombot

Arthur just discovered the military industrial complex. Enttiku help us all

TargetDrone

soo... is our observer/spy shitting bricks allready, because now viv has shown she is a full elemental archmage? that ought to raise her dangerrating through another roof :p

James Faulkner

Arthur thinking over the financial benefits of funding wars/creating an international military industrial complex 😂

ErrebanRrereban

I teared up during the brick part. She really is a great character

Roombot

I loved the Brick POV. She’s a good person

Young Youghurt

57 dead Harakans? That seems awfully low. I mean it's good but I thought the battle was larger than that. Thank you for the chapter.

Kennyevilmonkey

My fridays have returned to greatness! All hail the mighty Bob!

DocteurNS

Brick is a wonderful person.

Jackjargon

Thanks for the chapter!! Finaĺy got to see elemental form! Super cool lore as well!

Graham Golder

Great chapter; really liked the interaction with Enttiku

Munirah Hutchinson

Oh Brick. Beloved Brick. She is truly the most powerful Deus Ex device.

Ariel Huerta

MOAR!

Louisthau

The capitalist spirit of Arthur never fails to get a chuckle out of me. Great work as usual.

Isiah Debarros

Thanks for the chapter
