Just: "oh fuck! We've been traipsing around with the Empress of New Harrak! We're all going to die."

Dean Sharpe

Embassies have long been a way to rid yourself of annoying people at home by sending them far, far away from you. Preferably to somewhere less important, but sometimes they accidentally end up somewhere relevant.

Garrett Kout

2: even if there is a culture of the aristocracy being assholes to everyone they view as beneath them, to such an extent that the ambassador's skills would try to enforce that version of etiquette, he's far and away the most antagonistic of anybody we've seen here, so far. That's why I think making him a worthless noble or a general would make more sense, because again, an ambassador should have a class and skills that help him. Help him, say, ingratiate himself with a visiting Empress.

Garrett Kout

1: even if Viv were of lesser social status than him, he still should recognize that another nation invested a lot of effort in acquiring her, to solve a capital "D" Dragon problem. Alienating such a resource for absolutely no benefit does not seem like it could ever be in the best interest of the country he represents. What if in five years, whatever the name of the this port is also has a dragon problem, and Viv says no thanks, the ambassador was a jerk?

Joshua Aarons

I hate to be that guy, but can you imagine a magically charged rail gun. Just mounted on top of the ziggurats. Also she I feel like we are maybe 1 or 2 chapters away from her losing patience and power checking someone lol

Roombot

I would love to see that as a cameo lmaooo

Roombot

Oh gods please yes, an enclave of stranded E.T.s in Harrak

Roombot

HA!! nice catch I didn’t notice that

Clifton

It really depends whether talking down to those lesser than yourself is a characteristic of nobility that would help you fit in. If everyone behaves that way, the ambassador would have to as well in order to do their job effectively. Maybe they just feel unsuited to the job and are overcompensating. Or maybe he's just a dick.

i shteynberg

that was temporary. emeric gave it to her, once she escaped, he took it back.

Marian Ch

He's talking to what he perceives as inferiors, he's behaving as expected.

Orange Thistle

I have been thinking about what Viv can gain for Harrak from this and I don't think it will be guns. As established in this and the prior chapter magic can still defeat guns. The advantage of them is that they are new to the world and don't use mana. This means mages aren't looking to defend from them. However if Viv was to bring one back and use it to manufacture more, then create a rifle squad then it wouldn't take long for the other nations to find out and prep their mages. After all, we know that they are sending spies into Viv Empire to see what chaos she's brewing. On top of this guns take training. And while it doesn't need as much training to become good it requires a lot to become great. This means that if she does manufacture them, she wouldn't gain something like a modern military from that. Her new world doesn't have the fear, respect, or knowledge that Viv has of them. Sure she could try and train them herself, but she is the Empress and probably doesn't have the time to run a 42 week training camp as seen here on earth. So we can assume then that while initially powerful, guns only have this due to the element of surprise, and while she may still create a rifle group, said group would probably end up in a role similar to early Japanese use or that seen in the 14th to 15th century Europe. So what can she gain from this encounter... This is where I feel we could find ourselves blinded by the gold and gems, missing the Dragon. I think what Viv could find most useful would be the elemental. This is due to it being a Earth/Brown Elemental, who already seems open to Viv. Now assuming Viv helps it with the rift issue and goes back to talk to the elemental she may be able to persuade it to return to Harrak. This would be beneficial to Viv due to Harrak being a nation with land borders. Should Viv place the Elemental on a weak border somewhere then she can decrease or remove the current guards on it. Afterall who wants to march you army over a mountain range, or through a forest inhabited by a potentially hostile elemental who's element is the exact ground you are crossing. Instead attack at another point where you only have to go against some mortals on guard duty. But for this to happen the elemental needs a reason to want to move. This is a bit more challenging. However I feel like it may be willing should it be offered a area where there is less competition. From what we have seen of the area it is full of Earth elementals, who appear or hold a reputation of being aggressive. Now I assume these two things may be linked together. Large quantities of Earth elementals means less earth or brown mana available for each one. Therefore to gain/keep the resources they need they have a low tolerance of perceived threat, and high aggression. In Harrak though there are few or no Earth elementals due to a reasonable chance of death meaning that non could form, and the old ones being forced out due to the endless waves of dead and sudden change in habitat encouraging them to move out. Now with Viv helping out this elemental and treating them quite well, and from the looks of things, better than they have been for a while, she may have enough trust to persuade it to take a portal back to the empire, and onto its less black mana saturated border. Anyway, I have skipped out on some smaller reasons why I could see this situation occurring, please let me know what you all think.

Gremlin

Does Viv now identify as a dragon? "Dragon language was so much easier when there was another dragon around to make the bridge."

Garrett Kout

Yes I also subscribe to the stereotype that the aristocracy all suck, but this is a world with a system. I feel like his skills and stats should forcefully prevent him from being such a blatant dickhead. Beyond a passive "you are a better talker" skill, what if he has a "relative importance in the hierarchy" perception skill or something, seems like it'd flag pissing off an Empress as a bad idea.

Emily Gurnavage

Regarding my dumb research comment: Could I convince anyone I totally actually meant for her magic users to study the effects/the blast/the coils as it powers/etcetcetc to see if they can glean anything helpful for magic advancement?

Henrik T.

Yeah don't forget that coilguns, at least as we have them right now, don't just need wires and electricity but microelectronics to control them. By the time you have the technology to build coilguns you would also have fighter jets and thermonuclear bombs, assuming your tech tree roughly mirrors our own.

Senko

I saw that Batman film, Batman blew up someone with dynamite and smirked.

phenebeans

>“This is not just about learning from the best. You are too confident for a woman of the arts. The assassination attempt didn’t scare you. You are hiding something. Were it not for your earlier demonstration in the throne room, I would have believed you to be a liar.” Viv is such a badass, I love her so much, I love where this has gone so much. She is like Vivian f&%king Bond right now

DM

That would be so lovely

Elijah Overland

lol that was NOT a turn in the story I expected

Never

Im really looking forward to the moment the cover just drops and the ambassador wears his specially dyed brown trousers.

Arlen

dwarfs are missing from her entourage. dwarfs and elves...

Baldur Norddahl

"my daughter is a dragon"

Mantarok1205

Jolly good!

Adam Davies

My experience is that ambassadorship is given to assholes who are too politically connected to just kick out of government, but also too much of a problem to have around at home.

AgentFransis

She'll keep it as a personal weapon. Researching it is pointless, since as is mentioned they are many generations of science and technology before they can even analyze it, never mind replication.

Aclys

Ah but it gives the people he works for a way to send the asshole far away from them, make him someone else's problem.

AgentFransis

Next chapter she'll casually ask a dragon for directions. "I have a dragon cousin"

Kennyevilmonkey

The gun was just a loner. After she was done with it, the gods sent it back to earth.

Mundane

Viv is like me when I am in meetings with stupid people. I know if I speak up I will get more work but I can't help myself.

Clifton

The one who gave it to her (name currently forgotten) told her he'd clean up afterwards, so I believe he took it back.

Anon.

Before or after Viv comments on how her French sounds?

Hayden Leech

Typical entitled, no capabilities aristocrat

Steven C

Viv gets a crysknife *and* a gun!

Emily Gurnavage

Is that what happened to the rifle from the Elunath aftermath?

Emily Gurnavage

Lol right? She's gonna send em home for all the stated reasons, sure, but she's def keepin that handgun to research and just to have. Also, what ever happened to that crazy gun she used to bust outta prison after the Elunath fight? The recording device was used to play music and/or movies maaaybe 3 times since, but I don't think the gun was ever mentioned again. And did that recording device only contain music/movies, or more? Cant remember. Depending on how wide a range of movies though Viv might be sitting on a cache of advanced knowledge she hasn't thought to check.

Garrett Kout

I'm not sure it's a good idea to make the ambassador, who's whole thing should be diplomacy, a petty, mustache twirling asshole.

LenoraeKB

Hahaha I can picture Viv's look of offended disbelief that she would give up a firearm after finally gaining access to one.

Jack Sprat

Rift Expansion Pack!

Orange Thistle

One small suggestion would be to change the title so it reads more as a command from Viv to the Aliens. Maybe when posting on RR change it from 'comes' to 'GO'. However this is all pretty unimportant. More importantly I hope you are well and have fully recovered from Grandfather Nurgle.

Jarris

Tftc

Orange Thistle

Loved the gradually growing suspicion and Viv's atrocious attempts to quell it. Especially with the Earth Elemental. I hope we get to see some more of it.

Eric

The spark of luck gets everyone

Kennyevilmonkey

One day, a certain blonde vampire shows up, having wandered through a rip in space. She gives Viv just one look and say, 'Oh hell no! I'm not getting dragged into whatever this is.' And then immediately turn around and leaves.

Henrik T.

Absolutely not, bingles whole thing was a complete lack of awareness for all the weirdness surrounding him. Viv is very aware.

James Faulkner

Oh man, if Lak-tak makes some new friends with these guys the planet is fucked 😂

Marian Ch

Now Viv can completely revamp her pokedex via the addition of rift creatures!

Joshua McDowell

Wooh space dwarves!

Eric

Man Viv gives me Bingle vibes

Young Youghurt

Aliens! They solve jigsaws and break legs. What a guys.

John Anastacio

How very chariot of the gods. Is the ship a flying saucer? I want it to be a flying saucer.

Christopher Davis

Viv apparently has the wild wild wasteland perk

Simon Hoerder

Thanks for the chapter. Hope you're feeling well again. And it would not surprise me too much if that gun had the "Illinois Guns of Liberties" logo stamped on it somewhere even if it came from a little space alien. Ariadne travels far and wide and invests wisely in all sorts of guns. ;-)

AgentFransis

Finally Viv can cast the ultimate spell: Gun.

steamrick

I suspect that if Viv doesn't give back the pistol by the time the aliens leave, Nous will shortly thereafter break it using the Vandal title.

AgentFransis

"awkward reactor-propelled penguin" Quite the image.

Andrew

Thank you!

MountainFox

Maradoc must be having fits. Now there's two of them!

the btrflyz

Also, without stats they'd just get the gun taken away from them again. Best Viv holds onto it for the time being.

the btrflyz

Yes, Viv even mentions in this chapter that her eidetic memory doesn't help when she didn't have the first hand knowledge beforehand. Ideally, these outworlders will be able to help bootstrap industrial production for Harrak

Leviathon251

Epic chappie. Cool to have more outlanders involved :D

Cormac

Hopefully the Daemon of Nurgle has been banished back to the Warp. What if our alien friends cannot get home? Viv should really try to convince them to join up with her. Sci-fi ideas plus Nyil's magical nonsense would turn Harrak magepunk. It would also follow the running joke that every time Viv leaves Harrak on an expedition, she returns with friends. Plus she will need a massive power boost to defeat Oleander.

ikbenbarry

That ending just proves that Viv is the government. Of course the gun is rightfully hers, how else would she have it?

Jackjargon

Delicious!! Space aliens!!! Viv really is sooo bad at this lol! I hope you are feeling better!

Unwillingmainer

Nothing like outworlder bullshit. It's all fun and games when it's only Viv's bullshit, but two or more outworlders make exaptational bullshit. Look at that poor guy controlling the beastlings. Now we got space aliens.

SDCard

Thanks for the chapter!

Szelanaya

Hehe ye- too bad I already finished the PDF <3

the btrflyz

Hey! That looks better. Thanks for the quick fix, hope you are feeling better

WarStrider72

Woot thanks again!
