Louise

Dear Nous. I am absolutely wheezing. The little AH. I hope she meets him one day so she can clock him one right in the face. Lolllllll He's so ridiculous. I love it.

KnightRider007

No, but neither is “Obliteron”. In both cases, the intended meaning is pretty clear.

Tofol

On chapter 101( at least on royal road) celerin is told to be a woman, since sidjin uses she to describe her, in this chap he is a man, either people are generally mistaken of his gender of it is a continuity error, that's all

Sean Hibbitt

Nous!! I love it! A god sent an emoji xD

Diego Rossi

With Viv there are too many favorite arc to coun them.

FuriousDee

Efestar was he is now second chances

FuriousDee

Is CataClyst even a word

Young Youghurt

Viv uses pot of greed... it's super effective!

Sarah

I think it will set up her adopting their kiddo

Александр Гавриш

Because flying. Mother will finally grow some god damned wings

Adam Davies

Important: do gods have skulls?

Adam Davies

Oh my god. I cant even NOUS!!!

KnightRider007

Also possible that he truly believes this path has the best *overall* outcome for humanity as a whole, but he’s just massively disenchanted by the steps necessary to reach that end goal.

Diego Rossi

At this point, I think it is "Oleander don't trust. Anything."

Diego Rossi

It seems the more credible hypothesis, Benjamin. Or some form of oath they made back before Oleander changed. Oaths have real power and breaking one isn't easy, nor without consequences.

Diego Rossi

@Alexander Dupree. Oleander seems to have lost most of what made him a candidate for ascendency, now he is a template applied to an empty core. Dark/Light gods are mostly a construct of the currently dominating pantheon. Dark goods aren't necessarily evil. Enttiku was a dark god, and Efenstar (Fefe) was a dark good. Entikku is the necessity of death, unpleasant but real and indispensable. Efenstar is vengeance and rebellion, an important god for the undertrodden.

Cormac

F

MoonlitShade

I was also pretty upset about this one ☝️

MoonlitShade

Viv, Vov, Bob

MoonlitShade

Smh Nous wouldn’t let Viv become a Potter because then she would be too OP for this world

Grumpy Cucumber

Dark gods are anti-civilized species, Maranor is pro human, though less so individuals with little power

Max

I mean she kinda sad that she wanted a baby, now there is one on the silver plate

KnightRider007

Not “Catalyst”, but “CataClyst”. I’m 100% sure this is not a typo. She’s half way between a catalyst and a cataclysm…

Caitlin

Yesssaa vandal!!! Amazing!!!

FuriousDee

If she chooses catalyst will anyone even know what they are given they don’t have chemistry class in school

Toni Pampliega

Fate magic is controlled by dragons

Steven C

> But it makes sense with Crest's portals in play Yup, it's the classic mage with scry and fry on both sides

Emily Gurnavage

She can't path-up right now because it'll knock her out for several hours. Same reason the other guy didn't yet either. He wanted to ambush her fast, but pathin up woulda meant waiting a while.

Steven C

> The plot armor is thick with this one Well yeah. The only baffling thing is that she isn't instapicking the path of MC shens.

Enif

[Vandal] coming in clutch!

Aram Ibrahim Camps

I just straight up CACKLED when vandal came in for the save

HJ

I think solfis is outside the tiers and his capability is only limited by his armor and the tools he has at his disposal. I’m pretty sure with the right tools he could kill a god.

InLucidReverie

Yeah, their deaths are a huge loss

InLucidReverie

Yeeees

InLucidReverie

"Vov sighed." Amusing typo

NoReTr3aT

Become a lake'o'mancer like cat from A practical guide to evil. When in doubt drop a lake on your enemies.

ErrebanRrereban

Celestial.. bcuz meteor portals? Tsunami portals? Solar portals? Magma portals? Portal to the front of judgements mouth portals? Hell yes

RonGAR

@Denva You suuurree you are the one in the Right? Sure Emeric had Luck and led his friends to victory buutttt did they all get there happily or did they suffer along the way? Isn't his wife trying to kill him after this 'quest'? Didn't one of them lose their family on this 'quest' and became a dark god, and is now been remade into a light god and god of second chances? Seems to me, Emeric is still smiling widely while others around him aren't. Secondly... you really think that the fully grasped the concept of the black in that moment? SMH. She STILL thinks on it 15yrs later after that moment. So no, she hasn't fully grasped it, and doesn't know what the black really means to her. Look if you want her to choose catalyst, fine, but just say that.

Leviathon251

>:3

Leviathon251

Yeah not going to lie, it does seem pretty strange. I guess it depends somewhat on interpretation, but I feel like what's been described goes a ways beyond just 'strict heirarchies' and into abject cruelty and rule through fear.

ImaRat

I have to admit it never crossed my mind when reading the previous chapter, but what's the best thing to do when fighting the deadliest mage on Param? Trade spells? Nope, try and stab them? Oh Course not, its to Captain America their ass with your MAGIC NEGATING shield! It makes total sense and I somehow never saw it coming.

Alexander Dupree

Nat 1 the handling of weapons. Except it was the opponents weapon

Alexander Dupree

Might need to have an actual personality to advance to god which is why they warned her not to get caught in her path.

Jeanean

Now imagine Cataclyst allowing her some degree of control XD

Clifton

I think the pick has to be Cataclyst, not because Celestial isn't amazing too, but because Cataclyst gives her something she doesn't have - some degree of control of fate mana. Currently she can follow luck, with it she can create luck. Celestial builds on what she has, and could presumably get to eventually.

Kazith

Man, you’re such a fucking brilliant author!

Raptor425

Well I'm not gonna lie, VERY disappointed that the King and Queen of Sandsong died. I was hoping to see some shenanigans back in Harrak as Viv showed them how she ruled, which they would then learn from and take back to their homeland eventually once they recaptured it. Having the opinion of a King and Queen who, while not local to Param, hailed from the world would give a nice contrast to Viv and her wing it bullshit style of ruling. They also just seemed like nice people in general and deserve a chorus of Fs in chat to pay respects. F Edit: also despite my sadness at the King and Queen's death, thank you for the chapter. Always a pleasure to read.

FuriousDee

Oleander doesn’t like or trust mages at all if I remember correctly

FuriousDee

Possibly also because Oleander doesn’t like Mages

FuriousDee

It seems more like that was Nous picking a side given how he then told her to run

FuriousDee

She has to beat Emeric to become the leader she didn’t exile him he just left so she hasn’t managed to do that yet

Daemion

I think if Viv takes the baby, then it'll grow up as a ward. Arthur is the heir and her children after her. But the last of the Sandsong royality gets to grow up with them and perhaps, in the future, they will retake Sandsong and restore their kingdom.

Daemion

From an utilitarian point of view, Oleander's conquest of the world would save millions of lives and speed up progress. There would be peace and prosperity. That it would be under a strict hierachy and enforced by heavy punishments is another matter. Maranor is neither good or evil in this, she's simply on the side of order and conquest. Viv could use her as well for most of her campaigns.

Denva

I don't think so. Author is still first in line to the throne. And sandsong still has its nobles that that will want the child back. Let's not forget her great uncle.

Denva

I think you are seeing it as too much a black and white. What happened here doesn't make maranor a dark god. World conquest is just that conquest.

ItWasIDIO!!

Good job the long con the joke becomes hilarious again

Elan Stein

Rip all the mugs that lead to this glorious point.

Jennifer Leigh

I think the bar fight in Helock it helped. Of course, it also contributed to the start of the brawl.

Jennifer Leigh

A human heir! Other nations will rejoice.

Red Viking

She's already on the path with the whole "trying to resurrect the old God King", but she's not there quite yet. She's still has order as one of her divine aspects, if authoratarian order.

KnightRider007

Nero is peak fifth tier. Do we actually know what “tier equivalent” Solfis is?

David Brims

I suppose there is one other wildcard here: we don't know what weapon Viv & Harrak made from the civilization-ending crystal they got from Old Harrak. If it is something that would be particularly advantaged by the Celestial path, enabling Viv to defeat Oleander and his armies, that might be a reason to pick Celestial.

JLM

Vandal paired with Spark of Luck is an amazing combo. Hahahaha.

Kota

Isn't Maranor already head of the pantheon during Emeric's exile? I thought it was aid she already has that position, so not sure if she has much to gain in the divine realm... Also, as others have said, a god switching sides/pantheons has happened multiple times before, so who wants to guess Maranor becomes a dark god eventually? Certainly there are more atrocities committed in her name than any other deity except the dark gods...

RainyCats

How is Maranor not a dark god at this point

D

Woah, youre taking this very serious, do you? So because someone has already a child they cant adopt a nother? Way to go... O.O As for the reason, well, maybe because of the mothers lasts words? As for the uncle, i might be wrong, but isnt he the granduncle in this case? From what we heard about their culture so far, it might be more likely that he becomes the new admiral of vivs budding fleet and comes from time to time to spoil his grand niece. Oh and about sandsongs politics... seriously? O_o First there will be no sandsong for quite some time till oleander is dead, and even if there where, vivs political answer is probably 'defenestrate'. So no worries there. I think its a nice idea for her getting to juggle the kid raising and the ass kicking (also the 'boy toy' might want to try his hand on being a dad too). Lastly: I want to see arthur going big sister mode here. XD

Red Viking

Vandal takes, and takes, and takes, and takes, and takes, and takes, and takes, AND THEN IT COMES IN CLUTCH AND GIVES!!!

Jake Lewis

>:DDD

Lijwent

And now her own shield sould become an artefact, that would so piss them off

Max

Nooo, why did they die, now viv has to adopt their baby…

Keifru

CHEKOV'S VANDAL STRIKES! amazing

Nait02

“Stop praising her,” the Hoperusher spat. -> Hopecrusher, though Hoperusher is a far more amusing name

tr13ze

Thanks for the chapter 😁

Denva

Not atifact

Denva

The sendsong are not in danger though. As good as portals are catalyst is the one because that's what she made her black be remember when she was fighting the undead.

Denva

Plus catalyst is what her black represents.

Denva

You are wrong about luck. First of all this is not other stories. So the whole thing about being more lucky that other people don't prosper around you is wrong. Emeric was able to lead his friends with luck to victory against the old gods. And given what we have been told about luck(fate magic) by the dragons its not the way you describe it. You are wrong about Viv not having explained what the black is. Where were you when she was gaining the ability to become and elemental cloud. Go read the chapter were they fight the hordes of undead. The black is her catalyst. The path of catalyst in this chapter is what she will chose because she made the black her catalyst. And about the child. I don't know. She already have Author. I don't think the the uncle of the child will allow that let alone The nobles of sendsong. And let's not forget Viv didn't take sendsong as her own. Such a move will allow sendsong ability to influence harack politics. Even if she makes the child her own why? With Author the first in line of the throne and them being immortal its just a wast of time. I don't think Viv is desperate for a child to take a fake human when she already has a dragon daughter. I don't know it just sounds out there. Doesn't make sense.

Andrew

Thank you!

Max E Malekzadeh

Catalyst makes a lot of sense but celestial could let her take the majority of Sandsong back to Harrak right now if I'm not wrong. I think she may have initially misunderstood what was meant by long range portals...

Jed Wolfgang

Same! That took me out. Such a brilliant play.

a passing Fnord

Hah. That ending is an amazing chekov.

Jed Wolfgang

Wtf! How long have you been holding that in your pocket? Vandal was actually helpful!? Fuuuuuck me that was excellent.

D

@benjamin: No its because she has no live mana i think. Also i might be wrong about that.

Benjamin Mages

My opinion is that he's sticking with it out of a promise made to the Oleander who was his friend even if that man doesn't really exist anymore. It's in honor of his original goals and intentions.

Benjamin Mages

Teeechnically it's not directly Emeric's fault that she can't have kids, that's because she's half-elemental. It is his fault in that he started the sequence of events that forced her hand into turning into a half-elemental.

RonGAR

YEaH never ask an author that... the answer is Always Always, Yes! Was leading up to this all along. LOLOLOL

D

Had the same thought about the child, i mean aside from the heir thing, she has arthur for that. ^^ Also i remember in one of the previous chapters of this arc, viv was angry at emeric again because she remembered that he took her ability for having children. So if its true that she is going to raise the baby, it would mean that it was for-shadowing the event... O_o Now im wondering, did mecanimus do it on purpose or was it coincidence? Not that we'll ever know, even if it wasn't, he'll probably be: 'was totally forshadowing, had that all planed out, thats my story and ill stick to it...' ;-D

RonGAR

I knew you were going to stall the "path up" for a few chapters and it sucked to see that I was right about that. But you gave a lot to distract away from that disappointment. (Hoping you don't go on BREAK without making a choice) --------------------------- First off, you gave some great options. >Obliteron: A FullForce/Full Attack Path: Hmmm after what I've seen, she maayy want to reconsider this one. lol >Heart of Harrak: Does she really need another Path that ties her to the throne and country? The ability to 'share' power with your followers is cool, but I agree with her and doubt it would be as good as the power-ups given to the warriors on Sardinal island. No point in taking it then. >Cataclyst: Luck and Fate. Pulling Miracle out of thin air sounds amazing, but every comic book I've ever read about the powers of luck, means when you are getting good luck, the people or area around you suffers from Bad Luck. Essential you'll be sacrificing others, possibly ppl you care about, in trade for something good to happen to you. >And last but not least Celestial: SPACE MAGIC She has yet to fully explain what 'THE BLACK' means to her. It's not necromancy because that is taboo. It's not change, since some of that is 'restricted' by other gods, so she can't fully use it, at least not without permission. So why not make THE BLACK about the VOID of SPACE itself? Goddess of SPACE, distance, and speed. Flight, teleportation, and all things in-between distances. INFINITE SPACE... CELESTIAL would be my choice. Not to mention she would finally GET HER WINGS!!! LOL Or at least True flight. Arthur would be so, so proud. LOL ------------------- Damn, The King and Queen got killed. Honestly did not expect that. Thought they would live and rebuild their kingdom. I guess Viv just got herself another Heir with the newborn child the Queen and King left behind. --------------- How is Viv going to get out of this one? Use the 'CHANGE' to turn one of them into a tree. [W/ permission of course] She really is in a tough spot and has almost no rest. But Vandal of ALL THINGS came in handy for once LOLOLOLOL Was NOT expecting that! LOLOL --------- Well done! Liked this chapter a lot.

BelligerentGnu

If that's the case, then now would be the time to remove the damned thing.

BelligerentGnu

Yeah, bit of a mystery why Celerin is sticking around, he reads like someone who is completely out of fucks to give.

BelligerentGnu

Nous you miserable fucking bastard, I STILL HATE THAT TITLE!

Alexander Dupree

Yeah the portals are more obviously powerful but a free hand with your own deus ex machina is just Contessa from Worm.

Alexander Dupree

Cackles in glee! This is awesome

DM

Best thing ever

Szelanaya

Love your profile image :3

David Brims

I get what you're saying, but I keep thinking Viv will end up with an Aspect of Dragon and be able to shapeshift into a Dragon, or at least half-Dragon. And she won't need smoother spatial flight if that happens. And her daughter was really clear: Viv has to grow real wings. Advanced levitation doesn't count.

Quex

I like calaclyst because it really brings back the original framing of the story -- maranor making a bid to take control of the pantheon. I have to imagine if Oleander wins and becomes the scion of humanity she uses that as the leverage to take over. Meanwhile, Viv has done a great job currying favors with all of the other gods over her adventures so cataclyst feels like the choice that lets her cash in those favors the best.

Joe ?

My read is that this whole time Vandal was banking up inconvenient breaks for years so that it could do this one life saving break and be in balance.

Isiah Debarros

Also as will flight for daughter

Isiah Debarros

I know it's like completely the wrong reason to want to go to celestial and I want her to choose it for the daughter

Senko

I'm wondering if some of his, Celerin particularly will change sides to a God who can remove the mask and remember the little people rather than just trampling them without notice.

Ranger Science

“away” -> “down” FTFY :D

Senko

For me it comes down to size and distance which isn't really mentioned. Catalyst is a strong number one but if you can open a portal big enough to sail a ship through from here to anywhere on the planet with no intimediary portal then that becomes a strong contender. I'd probably still go with catalyst though and as I said anything less than that and fate magic is a clear number one.

Ranger Science

With on all points. Her role is to be other people’s problem :D

Ranger Science

“Vandal”! Best chekov’s gun ever, literally laughed out loud, not just a chuckle, actual, honest to god laugh. Wonderful.

Kennyevilmonkey

This is also probably why the lizards are on their way. Besides wanting to take these two out at the same time, they probably want to kill Viv before she has a chance to take their one advantage for herself and become even more of a true threat to them.

Kennyevilmonkey

She should definitely take the Fate magic class. Finally take the Luck god's power and make it fully hers.

lenkite

Need to develop anti-teleport pillars that can be carried on these carts that displaces teleporters a few km away without an authentication key. We barely even got to know this King and Queen. They gave their oath, viv released them from their Oath and then they died.

lenkite

Well, probably the entire point of her Fate that brought her here was not to save anyone but to destroy that Shield with [Vandal] when Oleander was separated from his forces. It probably took the full force of not just the skill but Oleander's strength and Viv's shield to shatter it.

Roombot

Finally Vandal comes in handy!!

AzureMaiden

Imagine if Nero obliterated Viv’s shield made of tokens from everyone she’s helped…

anonymous wildfire

He really is the other side to the coin. It’s implied that he had a similar origin to Viv, fighting against the odds as a rebellious force for good. Yet where Viv was tempered in her pursuits, he lost himself in them. I reckon that the deciding factor in their fight will be Viv’s companions vs his, and we’ve already seen the contrast there.

anonymous wildfire

Big agree. Especially since fate magic would take her another step towards realizing her true draconic destiny.

Clifton

He's the (dead) god of magic so I suspect, all else being equal, he's biased toward Viv. Probably, the gods aren't 'allowed' to interfere, so they have to use what openings they have.

MountainFox

Was Vandal breaking the gun earlier a way to balance karma for this... divine intervention?

Samuel

I believe Viv has used Vandal before, just got to find it.

anonymous wildfire

After stealing her gun, this feels right. Thank you Vandal, lol. Imagine being an “Immortal King” forging a near artifact just from your shield, practically indestructible, then you throw it at some upstart and it just shatters like a plate thrown into some pavement. LMAO! Dude’s gotta be so befuddled. Imagine if he was so stunned that he had actually just taken her Nuee to the face and the fight was just immediately over.

David Brims

I think I like Catalyst better than Celestial. Celestial lets her duplicate and improve on Sidjin's skill set, which is pretty cool. But she's already got Sidjin (who is hopefully also close to classing up). Catalyst lets her do complete bullshit that we saw how strong it can be with the Lizard people. And there's a reason the God of Luck was the previous king of the gods. Thoughts?

Full Derp

I did not see that vandal coming! What an awesome surprise.

Philipp Zander

Maaaaaan, their deaths sure are a kick to the teath....I can only hope that their child will find a fine mentor in Arthur and gets to bond a particular fierce dragonling

David Brims

Yeah, I'm sad about it too. But it makes sense with Crest's portals in play: this is the problem Viv and Sidjin's opponents have as well. With portals their mobility is hard to control and they can attack weak points with very little warning.

BaguaBrady

Nous is the only competent god in this whole story, the true MVP

David Brims

I think it's 'get away from Nero, his legendary shield breaking will really piss him off'

D

[]“His will is strong.” “Yeah. I have guns.”[] This made me laugh [][Vandal! Haha. >:D You should probably run now.][] And this made me laugh even harder Seriously, i guess our friendly system god tipping the scales for viv was a nice move. Totally D.E.M in the most literal sense ive seen so far. XD On a side note, did the queen have the child with her? Or does empress viv and princess arthur getting a try on raising human children? Realizing they can be much more of a terror then little hatchlings? ^_^

SnowReason

Is it implying the shield frags are gonna blow, or just get away from Nero? Also the parts from Celerin's POV make me hopeful he ends up defecting to our side.

Swinter

At the last bit? Vandal triggered and Neros shield broke. Vandal is the ability/curse that the dead god gave Viv after she broke one of those "indestructible" stones at the university. It triggered on Neros shield and broke it. Or the dead god triggered it for her. Because the gods like Viv.

KnightRider007

Celerin's perspective makes Oleander...terribly, terribly *sad*. A man entirely consumed and subsumed by his Path. Not sure if it's because his Path was inextricably linked to a God, or because he simply failed to properly temper himself to retain his sense of self, but he has lost that which supported his rise and development. He has lost his humanity, his friends, and presumably his actual soul.

HJ

i cant wait to see Solfis' opinion of Nero and a duel between them would be just amazing to read!

KnightRider007

his face was against the ground, fist steel grasping his blade => still

Marian Ch

"Oooups... did I do that? Silly me"

Pete Magnuson

The meme VANDAL title that the system god gave here a while back for breaking things in unlikely ways, triggered on the shield. Seems that Nous is tilting the scales a bit in her favor, even if she does cause him endless problems

Mantarok1205

Jolly good!

i shteynberg

[Vandal! Haha. >:D holly, stacking the deck, cow!

AzureMaiden

Maybe not stronger per se, because it’s like rock paper scissors. It’s heavily implied that Nero has spec’d into a warrior/leader path, which probably has more direct battle prowess. Teleport and flight aren’t strictly combat abilities, as much as utility abilities with combat applications. It gives Viv tools which Nero lacks—but he presumably had tools, even at that time, which she didn’t have, so it’s not a simple comparison. Love that Vandal proc’d there; the Spark of Luck really pulled through. Nero has no way of knowing what happened; to him it probably looks like she broke an unbreakable object with *NO* effort at all. Not even a spell or skill—Vandal doesn’t have a perceptible activation, so it looks like she just…willed it to break. Which, when you think about it, probably had the same psychological impact as Hela first catching Mjolnir, and then shattering it with one hand. It gave them an ‘oh shit’ moment because if she could pull a move like *that*, what else might she have tucked away?

Marvin bennett

Bro why did they have to die

Manlor

Appreciate the last second assist!

Cacophony

VANDAL.

Ferco

Wait, what happened?

fala

Good ol vandal always popping up at the most hilarious moments

Persepolis

Bro I can't I'm dying at that message

John Anastacio

I believe this the first time Vandal has acted in her favor. Delicious, satisfying. Sad about Jei and Naila but I don't think that could have been avoided. The royal couple were duty bound to stay with their people, which lost them mobility. I'm rather surprised Viv was able to block Nero even temporarily, and also that Nero is unable to fly or teleport. I think that means Viv might be stronger than Nero was when he was peak 4th step. Also Nero might depend completely on Celerin for mobility.

Pinpenny the great lithian

That ending genuinely made me bark out a laugh at work. Thankfully there's only like 2 other people in this office space with me

Emily Gurnavage

Lol what an ending. The plot armor is thick with this one (read it like Yoda), but im no less excited for what happens next.

Sky Abronson

I laughed out loud at that last bit. Vandal being useful for once! (And Nous' "you should probably run now," having just probably saved her life.) This was wondeful!

Travis Dean

Thanks for the chapter!

WarStrider72

Looks like that Vandal title was worth something in the end. Better get going while the getting is good!

Brandon Yarberry

Broken artifact go boom.

Jonathan

So, thanks Nous?

Hello

So excited for more, my favourite arc so far

Bunny Waffles

FINALLY! ALL THOSE BROKEN CUPS WERE WORTH IT FOR THIS MOMENT!

BOT

is Nous hedging his bets or just trolling at an opportune moment? Great chapter!

Stormbuilder

OH MY GOD. Finally we have the payout for the vandal joke and it's glorious

James Faulkner

Man, Nous the troll strikes again lol

SDCard

Thanks for the chapter!

WarStrider72
