Niceeee ! It is only fair for the nemeti to hold back oleander. I wonder his followers will have an issue with fightinv fellow humans after realizing that such a species was out there

Roombot

I love how Viv totally breaks the reverent attitude Sidjin has when he first sees her by turning it into a sex joke. That’s so on-brand for her

Elaine

good chappie

Thomas Todd

She meant she was middle of 5th tier for some of her stats

Thomas Todd

He said in Patreon he thinks it will be tomorrow he had a massive migraine

Toni Pampliega

People, Mecanimus is waiting to connect to POE 2. I mean... Finishing the chap. To motivate u, Meca, after this chap, 1 month ... Free. XD

JLM

Has Mecanimus gone on vacation alreadyl, or will there be one last chapter before this week ends? I mean, we have just literally at a cliff. Haha...

Fernando Roman

Do you think at any point we’ll get the description of the expert level skills? Acuity reflex went to expert and it said you can select later the specialization but never did or maybe I missed it.

Clifton

Thinking about it, was that description in relation to her stats rather than path? 5th tier in stats would be in the 40s. I assume it correlates to 10 per tier since there is a bonus at every 10.

Clifton

Never know, the experience might be helpful for getting some more elites. Oleander certainly has enough advantage there as it is.

Clifton

She was definitely 4th tier, so I'm going to suspect the previous mention was in error.

RonGAR

@Diego @Marian It also seems you need to have a 'history' to act as a foundation of your narrative. From the previous Nemeti invasion, the recaptured Hallurian's said, "If the Nemeti wins 'once' against you, they will always win" But they need that first win as a foundation for their narrative.

Marian Ch

Time to deploy an even better spell - more gun.

Marian Ch

Be a better storyteller and you win. Reminds me of the fae in Paranoid Mage

Steven cubberley

Or it's something they add or replace like with the trains thefts

RonGAR

***HEADSUP: I think a correction needs to be made. **** These last few chapters have viv 'Path up' from the 4th tier to the 5th tier, buuuuttttt in chapter 161 after the first Nemeti conflict, its mentioned "... She was now at the middle of the fifth tier, something at the upper limit of human capabilities. It would help her last longer in a fight and get one step closer to the level of Elunath at his strongest. Only hopefully without the hubris." Sooo shouldn't she now be going to the 6th Tier and Oleander the 7th???

Senko

Seems I was wrong the Nemeti aren't bowing to a stronger fate. Shame it means she'll have to deal with them permanently sooner or later otherwise they'll keep coming and meanwhile the alliance is weakened fighting them with Oleander om his way.

Senko

I'm thinking more "The world's best swordsman does not fear the world's second best swordsman. They fear the idiot with the broken branch as they have no idea what he'll do"

Senko

I'm sure Oleander thought the same thing about his.

Senko

Someone did a Web comic like that for starwars. Open up with the diplomatic negotiations over Naboo. Players go to war, try to recover with Darth Maul the Tax investigator and they attack him. Carry on through the films.

Senko

I also suspect if she hits godhood with the six step she'll be less goddess empress and more ascended goddess to the divine realm.

Jeanean

Kinda funny how a fate-magic duel is basically just an argument between children XD Nemeti: "haha! You can't win! Our ship is invulnerable to humans!" Viv: "Well, actually... I'm technically only half human, so you are only half invulnerable to me!"

Jeanean

Viv made that pact with Entikku, goddess of death. Oleander is Champion of Maranor, goddess of "might makes right" and petty assholes.

David Kanevsky

They can be squatting in shallow water and pop up behind beached landing craft

RonGAR

@Benjamin Yea you are right... I did get them mixed up.

Benjamin Mages

I'm not sure how you're mixing Maranor and Enttiku up to be honest.

D

haha, sorry, not my native language, but if youre amused, all is well. :)

RonGAR

RonGAR

Well, he does have a 'Step' over her. He is on his 6th and she is on her 5th. Not to mention all his attacks are 'direct' and more powerful'. Not to mention he wasn't silly enough to make a pact with the gods not to use 2 of the most dangerous aspects of his power like VIV did. (Necromancy and 'Change' on her enemies without 'permission'). Worse yet, Viv made that pact/promise with the very god who made Oleander its champion. Sooooo I don't expect a 'yes' when Viv eventually is force to make that request.

Ers20

I would guess that he's going to cut it with his sword.

Diego Rossi

Fate magic can be defeated, it is all around breaking its momentum. It becomes stronger on success and weaker on failure. Faith probably can counter it. I am not sure if there is a Faith magic, but the bullheadedness of a true faithful is hard to change, and it imbues a faith in a destined fate.

DAK

“His ears drooped sadly. Was Lak-Tak contagious or something”. Yes. Yes, he is. Also probably hallucinogenic.

Diego Rossi

Thanks for the chapter.

ItWasIDIO!!

No I mean in general like if he was to fate either one

Diego Rossi

"meats a man with a claymore", hmm. I don't know if it was intended, but it really gives the idea that the avatar was turned to mincemeat.

DAK

It probably just doesn’t come up, unfortunately. The Nemeti are on a fate run against Viv, and if Oleander gets in the way he’ll be smooshed. But I suspect they will otherwise ignore him until they defeat their current target. Assuming she breaks the Nemeti first, then Oleander gets away with not needing to.

Diego Rossi

Apparently, Fate magic is will and narrative based. The strongest narrative supported by a strong will and faith in it bend the world in its direction. So, knowing the narrative tricks, like "I am not completly human" or Macduff that was "from his mother's womb / Untimely ripp'd", so he wasn't born from a woman, helps in the battle. Things that saps the "faith" in a "ultimate destiny" will break Fate magic too. "You have failed in catching me again and again, and now I slip free" will weaken fate magic a lot.

ItWasIDIO!!

I like how fate magic is done & countered one question how is Oleander supposed to counter that even his patron is on a losing streak from such magic

Diego Rossi

I love the idea, I hope Mecanimus will make a side tale with it ;-)

Diego Rossi

A variant of the "No man can kill me." "We have female knights." In modern fantasy I think C.l. Moore was one of the first to use it.

Diego Rossi

I think that the golems are bad swimmers, but an assault sub golem would be an interesting alternate chassis for them. Instead of a single, all powerful chassis, they could have several alternative ones.

Diego Rossi

The Nemeti are specist, not racist, while Oleander fleet is racist (they are prejudiced against human divergent races, not only against other species). Both very "nice" neighbors.

KnightRider007

But seriously, that’s just hilarious. “They’re warded against humans! Assistant Minister for War Crimes, front and centre!”

J

"This was the fleet of an imperialist expansionist faction meeting another imperialist expansionist faction, but that second one was also racist. There was exactly one way this would go." - Wait, aren't both of these factions racist? The Nemeti are for obvious reasons, but isn't Maranor pretty pro-Human specifically, as in "Humans are the superior race" pro-Human? Or is it just a coincidence that most of her staunchest followers we've seen are Human supremacists?

Garrett Kout

Maybe a squad of golems waiting underwater?

MoonlitShade

Genius.

Anonymouse

You know, I just had quite a thought. Between fate magic and being immortal, Viv has the potential to be an even more effective benevolent dictator than Oleander. It’s a good thing for the rest of Nyil that her point of view is basically “don’t be a prick and I’ll leave you alone.”

buca117

Oh, so mass effect 3's ending. I'm not bitter.

Leviathon251

I don't like the Nemeti. Blow them up :(

Wesley

"Harrak was waiting." Epic!

M0och

Reminds me of the PGTE quote: "Who should really be afraid, between the dragon and the peasant with a sword?"

AzureMaiden

I was really, really looking forward to seeing a fate magic duel—and you, good sir, did *not* disappoint! Another fantastic chapter as always!!!

Pete Magnuson

Hail the Dread Pirate Bob! P.s. [Witch’s Twister] sounds like an absolutely devastating prank on someone's nipple

Young Youghurt

Nemeti make huge floating fate powered monstrosity of a ship Viv be like: Hm, I am afraid not. Canon witch chain! Nemeti: what is thiiis.

KnightRider007

Did she just… She DID! She literally pulled off an “I am no (hu)man!” moment! On a *strategic* level! Twice!

FishFace

It just occurred to me tha viv's shield has a token from all her best allies/Citizens... except the hadal. Which means that at some point a hadal has added a sneaky little mark on it, that only they notice. Im sure this is a source of much amusement for them

Bret Steinkamp

Feels like a contest of will to me. The winner will be the person who can will their story into effect. But in this case, it looks like a mix of regular spell casting and fate where Viv is bypassing their fate based defenses.

Angus Losier

"Slow, strong bruiser gets dunked on by fast, smart trickster" is a classic trope for a reason.

Angus Losier

Even simpler. You're a DM trying to run a game of D&D, and your player characters insist on ignoring the plot, derailing it into chaotic nonsense, and then proceeding to run rampant through your game world and plotline, all while you desperately try (and fail) to make something up to get things back on track.

ErrebanRrereban

At this point they're fun Easter eggs 🥚

Oskatat

Giant fleet of a conquering empire confident of their destined victory, against one ship of bravely defiant and determined misfits? It's obvious who's going to come out on top.

Anon.

Nestra is pretty good at casting gun...

RonGAR

Soooo how does fate magic work for spell casters again? Who could make up the best 'story' against the other?

Oskatat

A pleasure as always edit: I just had an idea for the best analogy to how the nemeti might be feeling now. Imagine you're writing a successful webnovel. You've laid out the major plotlines and the main characters and you're three quarters along the story. Then suddenly you have a co author. And the co author has a very, very different idea of where the story should go, and the tone it should have, as well as who the real main characters are. Or like when you're a kid and you're telling a story, and that one other kid constantly interrupts with their own ideas, trying to get you to incorporate them into the story. "Oh, wow, yeah, and then, like, an army of giants appeared!"

Aaron Greene

The battle of Harrak vs the Nemti at Grand Beach shall be taught in tactics classes for millenia to come!

Quex

Really enjoyable. Thanks for the chapter. Fun to see how the fate magic framing works. I like the use of the roles as both frame and prison for her fight with the nemeti. Better to be the trickster in that case because then you get to play with the meta! Also loving how all of the allies that Viv has cultivated are coming back to offer buffs and blessings. I know it's possible this is nearing the end of the major story arcs so it's cool to see all the call backs.

tr13ze

Thanks for the chapter 😁

Mantarok1205

Jolly good!@

Graham Golder

Great chapter. Love the dialog: "Hello hello! It is I, the living blasphemy. Are you ready for my next trick?”

D

One could almost pity the nemeti.. almost. I mean, first their gods avatar meats a man with a claymore, now their grand priest meets a yries with a gun. Soon fate will be so embarrassed to associated with them that it will pretend not to now them any longer. XD

Jed Wolfgang

This is epic! I would love to see this visually represented. I believe it would be just as impressive as the naval battles and chases in “Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World”.

Jackjargon

Such great tension and Viv is once again the trick Master. I wonder if she will assend to become a trickser God? Like bugs bunny lol

Grumpy Cucumber

Had me laughing out loud that

Jonathan

'Nothing has ever truly harmed me when I held this shield, and nothing ever will, because when I hold it, I am guarded by the will of all my people.'

Unwillingmainer

She has brought the most dangerous of spells to this poor, fucked up world, GUN! And it's friend, BOMB! Things will never be the same. How long before a gunslinger Path shows up? That's the problem with the Nemti, they are one trick ponies. Granted, fate magic is a pretty good trick, but now Viv can play that game too. Plus, she has never stopped looking for more and different tricks and cards to play. It's all about having more bullshit in your favor than the other guy.

Andrew

Thank you!

alex

excellent as always. i neeeeed some solfis fuckery

James Faulkner

Casting Gun brought a tear to my eye, truly a blessed day 😂

Jacob

Ha the Nemeti are about to find out that fate loves an epic turnaround and subsequent ass whooping

R.M.

Amazing!

Justin Reagan

Great chapter

Angela Roberts

Wonderful sea battle! Viv's new status is interesting, all about the stories and fate. I'm thinking she who has the better imagination, wins, yes?

Brandon Yarberry

*Excited hype noises*

WarStrider72

So, next week Viv reenacts the Battle of Marathon

Mecanimus

Dammit. Editing.
