I ztill would have wiped every pure league city from the planet. Nothing good comes from letting racists live

ManguKing

I'm guessing that avistan is the birth place of one of the other Godz

Caitlin

Some of my favorite snippets - she had learnt not to burn bridges unless it was either necessary, or at least very funny. she had a shit list kept short by crossing names off of it, and there was still room at the bottom.  As always loved it! Thank you!

SnowReason

I suspect something to do with the abomination god. After all the fighting for the civil war it was swamped by abominations.

Senko

He also worked for the Church of Maranor who were in charge of the holy city.

Senko

The question is whether he's even aware of it. Since to my knowledge only the empire of lizards and dragons use Fate magic aside from Viv.

Elaine

good chappie

Quex

Despite Viv saving his life in the beastling arc he's proven himself a tool in more ways than one multiple times. Wouldn't be surprised if he's in Oleanders army now.

Quex

I loved the little diatribe she gives about exactly this. She calls herself the most consistent leader in Param all for the purposes of protecting her own with implied force and authority.

AzureMaiden

Ooooooooo if that was a typo, and they were the same place…what if the legend got it wrong, and the thing that pissed off Judgment wasn’t insults or disrespectful behavior, but some kind of tech? (Only one kind of tech comes to mind that would bring down Judgment’s wrath w/o qualification…)

AzureMaiden

Something I remembered just this morning, too, is that fate magic is all about the narrative. Every barrier erected, setback inflicted, and contest of wits won is a victory for her and a loss for him, slowly but surely solidifying the narrative that he is outwitted, outplayed, outmaneuvered, and thus (according to the bullshit Fate rules 😂) *must be outmatched*. If I understand her path correctly, she could potentially to use the success of the guerrilla campaign (as defined by her) to create an *immense* power boost, and maybe even inflict a massive debuff on Oleander to boot.

Robbie Mathieson

Lord war crime. Have I told you about land mines? Little pressure triggered explosives. You adjust the weight required or even chain them together so they all go off once your targets in the middle of a field of them

Clifton

Could equally be standing from her throne - getting up to receive her guest rather than sitting on the elevated chair.

FuriousDee

I think Maranor's sword can kill gods because Maranor was the one using it. We saw in the prologue she has a divine slaying blow skill so that was probably the type of magic she used before she ascended too.

Mantarok1205

Jolly good!

BelligerentGnu

You know, for all her chaotic nature, Viv is more of an Order leader than Oleander. She gives her word, and never breaks it. She outlines terms and expectations at the start and always follows through. Really, in some ways she's completely predictable.

Emily Gurnavage

The mental image is great though. Viv is already tall as shit, but then standing ON the throne? In my head she did a t-pose while staring down Mother.

Alex

A few things the Circle that Celerins made in the old capital was a one way continent crossing sling shot like teleportion mechanism it was never a gate. And second as stated before the capital is still highly concentrated with black mana and undead so good luck with that nonsense.

Anonymous Person

I think sge's meant to be standing on her dias, not on the throne itself. There's an important symbolism to a conversation where an authority figure sits while the other party stands. By standing up when Mother comes in, and walking over to her instead of staying on her throne/dias, Viv is communicating that this is a conversation between two people concerned about a famin instead of a supplication of subject to monarch.

Nopret

It is less of a problem then you might think. In the beginning of the Vizim ark Viv is in a green zone with no concentration they cleared near the capital. Plus they have train tracks that are cleared of mana concentration nearby. Oleanders army can just follow them. Viv was also pretty clear about leaving obelisks behind, even if they are not needed anymore so sabotage will be hard. Celerin is the first character introduced who can clear the mana concentration. Additionally he has portals to make the journey easier. Worst case the obelisks are easy to copy, Viv could do it since her 2nd step.

FuriousDee

They would need to deal with the mana concentration as well.

Red Viking

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! Big ass battle comi- the fuck's mr. 'to stop attrocities, I must become all the attrocities' doing now!?

Simon Casey

It’s hard to imagine the pure league by itself being a threat, no matter how weakened the victor is.

Leviathon251

Blow up the city before he can claim it.

Bloodkite123

Thank you for the chapter! "You’re breaking his story piece by piece, ain’t you? Destroying the dream.” This is important. She does, and it's glorious. At the end of the war, even if he miraculously survives, the populace will hate him. So much for his "peace for mankind"...

KnightRider007

should be enough to move the comma from after 'foreknowledge' to after 'of'

Andrew

Thank you!

Jeanean

Maybe some kind of "ancient weapon" that he found in the past? You know, the kind of thing that is kind of super powerful, but entirely useless if you don't have a huge organization to dig out and use it?

Angela Roberts

"Viv stood on her throne to approach her latest petitioner." "Viv stood because Mother didn’t deserve to be looked down upon" I originally thought this was a typo, cuz why would one stand on a chair, but the second sentence makes me think it's a choice. A confusing choice. Is she shorter standing up than sitting down? I assume it's talking about a metaphorical "looking down upon", as if sitting would show disdain or superiority. Just think the phrasing could use some tweaking, because standing also has actual physical height implications. Also, petitioners approach her, not the other way around. So what I'm thinking is going on, is Viv stood "from" her throne, and then walked over to the person petitioning her. I think ya need to use a more casual word than "approach", because someone can approach a throne but a ruler trying to humanize themselves shouldn't "approach" a petitioner. I dunno, approach just seems more formal to me, like its a maneuver, maybe some indication of where and how Mother is standing would help too. "Viv rose from her throne and joined Mother below the dais," Probably reading way too much into this.

InLucidReverie

It's a place that should be bound to him by fate- maybe he's hoping that holding it will disrupt Viv

InLucidReverie

Should it not be 'stood before her throne', not 'stood on'

Garrett Kout

I imagine you’re representing the mage’s enclave at End of the World?-> just occurred to me that "End of Earth" would be a good name for this place, cuz of their history with a water elemental archmage and the probably made up contention between the two elements and all that. Then I started wondering about translation, and if the earth element in spells is the same word they use for their planet, like we do.

Senko

Interesting I wonderbwhat Viv has planned for Gil and Enora. So the pure Leage is mostly sitting the war out in hopes of a weakened victor. Wonder if they'll be a major threat down the line. As well as what Oleanders up to, I doubt it's a portal Cres can make those anywhere.

Garrett Kout

"If I am ever inclined to kill your prince’s political opponent for free, in a way he can deny foreknowledge, of hmmm?”-> think this sentence needs work

Thanks for the chapter!

How they switched so fast, Nestra still had no idea. ==> How they switched so fast, Viv still had no idea. Zan lowered his eyes. He lte out a deep sigh. Viv wasn’t done. ==> Zan lowered his eyes. He let out a deep sigh. Viv wasn’t done. when cavalry trotted behind to close they way ==> when cavalry trotted behind to close the way getting enough good to last until the harvest. ==> getting enough goods to last until the harvest.

Nopret

Are Aristan and Avistan different cities? Because Aristan is the city Judgement destroyed and Avistan is apparently a different ruined city in the mountains?

Nopret

It would make sense for the teleportation circle to Harraks capital to be there or at least be nearby.

Jonathan

Thanks for the chapter! I do like stuff going wrong, shakes up the old playbook. I'm guessing sealed Old God fragment (anyone else remember that she partnered with The Corruptor?) or Celeren's old TP network (I guess to Harrak? Might just be a tunnel network but those should be in Solphis data banks and already explored).

Nopret

I wonder on who's side Mr Dragonslayer reborn is on. The guy that has Barans super duper Dragonslayer sword. He dislikes Viv but I don't see him getting along with Oleander

Nopret

I don't think Oleanders path is self contradictory. It is about creating an order where Maranor is number one and he is number two. Everything is less important than Maranors order, even himself. So he loses everything that doesn't immediately advance said order. That includes emotions especially things like pitty or hesitation. The biggest loss isn't even his loss of self reflection, way worse is the fact he won't accept criticism from anyone. (except maybe Maranor) Because of that he is taking an insane amount of shortcuts. His power being reliant on Maranor and damaging him is one such case. The other is the hasty invasion which just creates unnecessary enemies. Most of Param hates him and I wouldn't be surprised if half of Vizim is already revolting. Sandor is obviously going to betray him the moment his son is free. I'm not sure about Clerins role in this. Pretty sure he either dies or betrays Oleander, maybe both.

Unwillingmainer

Never good when your enemy does something unexpected and strange. Usually means a swift kicking is to follow. With him desperate and his army starving, it must be pretty important. Wonder just what is in that ruin and what Viv will do about it?

WarStrider72

Let's see if Viv can steal/find whatever Nero is looking for first!

Angela Roberts

Oleander definitely has a surprise for Viv. But will it materially later the out come?

Nopret

Thanks for the chapter! So I think Celerins teleportation circle to harraks old capital still exists they might send a part of their force through there. That only works if they have a way to deal with necrachs but those should be easy for Oleander

AzureMaiden

…anyone else remember how Maranor’s sword could kill gods because it was forged from a meteorite? Okay, now anyone remember that there is recently another meteorite weapon on Nyil, which just so happens to be carried by the Kark tribe which just so happened to stroll into Viv’s camp? No foreshadowing here. Nope. None at all (tho knowing Mechanimus, he’s just as likely to subvert expectations 😂)

AzureMaiden

That’s definitely part of the problem—but I’d also point out something else. Oleander got hollowed out and consumed by his path, whereas Viv didn’t. My personal theory is that this is (at least in part) because Oleander’s path, at its core, is about being a follower. For all that it is about power, that power is defined by his being a subordinate of Maranor. Viv’s path, on the other hand, is been to tell the world to fuck off and let her do her own thing—and her latest path up lets her make the world actually listen 😂 I’d be interested in seeing if the self-contradicting nature of Oleander’s path will have any impact on how things play out…

AzureMaiden

…almost sounds like maybe he found something there when he arrived, and then hid it ‘just in case’. He does kinda seem the type.

Angus Losier

I spy a Nestra. "Thirteen finished her inspection, sniffed Viv’s cup, then turned back to her now showing a smiling mask. How they switched so fast, Nestra still had no idea."

Quex

Avistan is where Nero appeared on Nyil. Interested to see what that place holds for him there!

FuriousDee

Well it was about time for things to start going wrong again

Moatdog

Oleanders problem is that the only thing good about his army is a few elites. He didn’t build them up he just had the personal power to bring them under HIS control. Yet without him it’s a bunch of mashed up groups with literally no way to do anything without Crest the portal user

Silchass

Thank you for the chapter!
