While you make good points I will add one counter argument: any problem can be solved with a sword if your sword is big enough.

Tamashii

Nestra has a steep learning curve with all that underhanded stuff. Sharpened Nestra is a force to be reckoned with. Hope Grook and Spire will walk out of this situation healthy.

Pierre Steiner

And now you're writing magical cape and sword intrigue, my my what a treat ! Thanks for the chapter

"You do not have the luxury of picking what holds an interest,” he said with a sad smile. Kinda insightful, even if I missed it on the first couple re-reads.

He has probably stationed goons 24/7. Now that you mention it... it was probably a mistake to use her real name. Depending on how fast the pingeon mail / shark delivery equivalent for male Azshii is, her father might only get messages once a month or year. Travel time wasn't really elaborated on, much. Maybe like warhammer 40k? Could be short, could be centuries? How many favours is he willing to give away to females for regular portals? I am not sure how up to date everyone is. Both heavenly and Azshii. Not like they have internet. Rumors can only do so much. Nestra finding one of her father's goons would be funny though, if the goon doesn't yet know about her. The wonders and intricacies of logistics! :)

Heh. Reading the comment I had to think about a potential comedy scene: "You are under arrest for having regular contact to an unlicensed cabal of assassins!" "But they are not assassins! They are Reaver mercenaries!" "..."

Interesting chapter! :) B-Rank civy, magic construction overtaking non-magic, soft/hard players, realisation of player hood (player-dom?), smell of piss and ambush? :D Lots of stimulating stuff, events and wordchoices. I love how the warden-insignia is balanced! Passes on distance but not on a personal inspection! :) I'd be stumped on how to make a forge be part of a story and not be OP, but it only *triggering* the *it is a fake!* event when you are doing something suspicious is really nicely balanced. Very satisfying to read. :) Hope that Spire didn't raise a flag by mentioning his dead family. Or Grook dying because she finally got a sister. I do hope that Makihel knows that she is f*cked, if Grook dies and will try to protect her even at the cost of her own life. It will be super suspicious, yes, but potentially very interesting to read about the fallout. :)

Really cool arc!

DeadicatedReader

Fantastic, very excited to see the next pieces in this arc! She tuned off the conversation, -> turned out Be carefully playing the Games of Princes. -> careful

Adspartan

I must say I really like this arc ! And yes, Grook better be alright :x

"she was bad at political maneuvering yet always doing it anyway" I'm fairly sure refers to Hector. He's a reclusive and stoic nerd that struggles to understand people, but as a powerful first-gen and guild leader he has to constantly participate in the politics of Threshold. Several other influential people have made comments to Nestra that hint how just about anyone with any influence knows him, or at least know of him.

I agree but tbh it's to my taste (I like an underpowered but creative main character). But to your point it would've been interesting to see what played out on Earth with more power.

Pedro Henrique

The use of "the real one" to refer to her dad is confusing. Nestra consider Hector to be her real father since he was the one who raised and loved her, but the use of "real one" here makes it unclear if she means her biological dad or the man who raised her, since both dabble in politics, Hector as a guild leader and the Aszhi as a patriarch. I think it would have been better and more clear to just use biological father.

Manlor

I hope she keeps him as a contact. She needs more uncle figures in her life.

Conviter

its a little annoying that the moment she became strong enough to actually be relevent on earth power wise, she moved on to the next place where she is again at the bottom of the food chain.

SpaceCat

I wonder if her dad is going to send goons. Or maybe he has no idea where she is

Astra

Spire better not get Shinoda'd, I like him.

Unwillingmainer

Is Spire finally getting through Nestra's thick fucking head that she needs to learn how to scheme and politic well in order to survive? As much as she would like otherwise, her existence is not going to be wandering from portal to portal to challenge herself and eat new things. Between her connections to Threshold, the Covens, and whoever else, she is going to have to learn how to play the Great Game. And play it well if she wants to survive, thrive, and get what she wants. Not every problem can be solved by a sword and even those that can often benefit to it being at a time and place of your own choosing.
