That last line—“You’ll be back on your feet and hating me in the morning”—says a lot about Eighty. She genuinely seems to enjoy the BDSM games, psychological as well as physical, and I suspect harbors a hidden masochistic streak, perhaps out of self-blame for something big in her past. She certainly isn’t shy about flicking a verbal knife and is exceedingly deft with it, clearly able to discern similar wounds in others. At the same time she demonstrates what seems to be a carefully hidden softer side, and I imagine her managerial post may well be due to the balance of those two contradictory traits, however precarious a balance it may be.
