One interesting thing is that in the early 20th century there was so much state planning and government regulation in the economy in Germany (as well as many other Western countries), especially during times of war or economic crisis, that even the right wing mostly did not deny the efficacy or importance of state planning and regulation. The fusion of anti-communism with the economist critique of state planning in general actually came a couple of decades later, especially influential in the United States. Additionally, the success of the Russian Revolution (along with attempted revolutions in Germany and elsewhere) made the right wing a lot more willing to implement various welfare reforms and benefits geared towards workers and the poor, precisely because they believed that it would pacify the workers and make them less likely to become revolutionaries. Anti-communism thus was not so strongly linked with free market fundamentalism. The kind of free market fundamentalism so common among much of the right today actually rose in the second half of the 20th century, and really took off with the global rise of neoliberalism in the 70s and 80s

I have been blown away by the inside gained from this series that it is hard to know where to start from exploring all it's dimensions or even raising this question without going too much into detail. I am just curious about your thoughs on this in general. For example, I have been raised in the Netherlands with some/lots USA influence (like most of us in Western Europe) and we have been brought up and taught (at school, but also the mainstream media/news/TV) about, let aggregate it for now, communism and how much of a threat that was to our society. I have been taught that freemarkt capitalism is the solution to all of our problems so to say ( I was born 1979 and been in school from 83-98). How much of this narrative created in the west, in regards of communism, was inspired/based upon the lessons learned (so to say) from the German revolution? In other words, how did the rest of the world, but mainly USA and UK, looked at this conflict and installed many strategies, in the form of propaganda and such, over next decades to come? To avoid another conflict like this happening in their country.

Ideally I'd like to make a new one this month, but I don't know what topic I'll be doing yet. I can send you a message on Patreon when I know more specifically!
