Absolutely aware they don't have tailpipe emissions (they don't have tailpipes after all), but research is showing the emissions from the tires actually aren't insubstantial, especially with giant SUVs that are sadly becoming the defacto EV in the US, and perhaps Canada (something like !30%! the volume). I think you are right about side alignment, and the Northern Busway in Auckland is similar, I think it's mostly a question of interaction / status of existing HOV / bus lanes. The side alignment design is certainly nicer!

It does, but the complexity and traffic levels would make it very tricky! Big highways are bad for so many reasons!

I wanted to watch this earlier when it was a draft, but for future reference at least, electric vehicles have zero tail pipe emissions, not zero emissions, as there is still the issue of microplastics from the tyres, similarly the metallic dust of the brakes, and emissions generated upstream like at power stations. It's a tiny, mostly insignificant, detail to most people, but as you can imagine, it's the kind of thing insufferable anti-electric folk like to 'gotcha' on. Something I would love your opinion on, pros and cons of highway median busways, verses highway adjacent busways? I'm very partial to the South East Busway here, built adjacent to the Pacific Motorway, and on the subject go getting buses on and off, I wonder if its easier because it only butts against the motorway on one side, allowing plenty of access points on the other side.
