Steven looks like he's on his way to a 'hand fastening'. It's a sort of cross between marriage and engagement. I think it was originally a celtic thing, but now a days there are at least 2 druid priests who preform them in the famous sherwood forest. They look like extras from lord of the rings.

My housemate wears one as a symbol of being into wicca. She's started burning rosemary and sage in the livingroom for 'good vibes' I guess. It keeps the cat quitet anyway.

where I live, (Nottingham, England), that star necklace usually means the wearer is into the whole new age wicca/pagan/druid stuff. There's a 'pagan pride' festival once a year (although it's not as big as gay pride), and a pagan policmen's association. They mostly want to have some of the pagan holidays off work.
