i went to cripple creek a few years back on a geology field trip and we went into the mollie kathleen gold mine, a historic gold mine which was being operated as a tourist attraction. their big draw was that you got to take the real mine elevator over 1000 feet underground, which really freaked me out. last month, an elevator accident killed a tour guide and trapped the tour group underground for hours and so it is closed indefinitely.

Take a trip to Old Colorado City, the original capitol of Colorado. Garden of the Gods is so beautiful. Go up to Golden (suburb of Denver) and check out the Red Rocks amphitheater and this is also where the School of Mines is at.

I grew up in Denver and I enjoyed studying Colorado history while pursuing my degree in history. I love that you are expressing the sheer wealth these miners were chasing. Thank you for this episode.

I got excited when I saw the title! I've actually been there, which aside from Worlds of Fun is the only other time I could say that about a Defunctland topic!
