For me, just one big plain YES!!! I trim and mount all the tiles I prefer to use on MDF and size them to my laser cut trays. Way faster than clipping stuff together, so the above approach definitely works for me.

The initial melee area could be done with this set of tiles. Just need to build out.

I'm wondering how large of a radius can be done. 8"? A 16" diameter circle would make a perfect "UDT" - Ultimate Dungeon Terrain. If you're not familiar with the concept, "Dungeoncraft UDT" on Youtube should bring it right up. For traditional play, a big circle pit of death would be awesome! Normally for UDT, you'd have a 6" diameter center circle representing melee range, Then an additional 6" to 8" ring representing ranged combat and spells, the outer remainder is "out of range" basically in the next room, or out in the hallway or something. Characters and NPCs can move in or out one zone per round. Neat concept, and for those short of space, a great alternative to printing and setting up mega dungeons.
