People will often criticize Kishimoto, but look at how great the writting here is. In a short amount of time, he made you care so much about this character. Not only that, but he tied in, so many things. Small gag about Choji getting mad at being called fat or about wanting to eat the last chip. All culminating to the villain doing and this and Choji indicating that he can forgive that, but he won't forgive someome who talks bad about Shikimaru... And even the revelation that Chojis clan actually need to be fat, to use their secret weapon. Meaning that Choji WAS actually training, all those time we saw him eating. He was just bulking for this moment...

I have watched Naruto start to finish atleast a dozen times over the years and this episode still one of my favorites because it's the first meaningful departure of a good character and the introduction to the fact that the writer is willing to unalive characters we would not expect . Can't wait for shippuden . Loved yall reaction to this . Wish yall uploaded 3 times a week tho , I'd be willing to pay an extra $5 a month for a 3rd double drop a week . I don't think I would say any of the Sound Four individually are on most Leaf Jonin level. It took the four of them as a group using what they call "second state" (what Jirobo used in this fight) to win against three Special Jonin and even then, none of those Jonin ended up dying and the Sound Four were left exhausted and had to rest afterwards. P.S. Crazy to think that out of our main cast of students, Choji was the first one to catch a body. That's wild. RIP to a great character, so many allergies this episode

For me, alongside the literal “Cho”, was that I always thought of the butterflies as another symbolic expression of growth. Choji being chubby, somewhat helpless like a caterpillar, always eating/growing/biding like a cocoon, then finally free and unleashed like a butterfly.

FYI Brandon idk if you know yet but “Cho” means “butterfly” in Japanese. I may have stated this on an earlier episode, but the ino-shika-Cho trio is based on a Japanese card game combo of boar (ino)/deer (shika)/butterfly (Cho), so that’s where the butterflies come into play here
