Development Update!
🕑 Added 2021-03-14 22:01:00 +0000 UTCAs I said last month, this month has been spent chipping away at the new sprites and taking some time off for what time I didn't get over Christmas. That said, there have been some bumps here and there (mostly because of a certain someone's new sprites deciding to corrupt) but let's have a look where we are now:
Dean is 100% done for the 1080p update and this is where he's sitting with a few examples of poses, expressions and costumes he'll be rocking come said update going live (which we're still a ways off given how many other sprites I still have to smash out). I've kept the main things that make him a lovable bear and worked a few things that weren't quite working out for me, but each pose has a few expressions to each, and all are rigged to blink as needed for that small animation touch. I did a lot of Dean on-stream on the server so people were able to see me struggle with various ideas as I went through getting him to here.
I've spoken on the server and in VC about the concept of "Acts" in Password, loosely every set of 10 days. The original idea was to have a forced costume change when the act ticks over, so that will be something that should happen once all the new assets are in too. The downside is that it may not register on existing save files until we hit Act 3, which will be around day 20 in-game.
Of course, Roswell didn't escape a HD upgrade either. A few tweaks here and there, notably his stature so he'll actually be his correct height compared to the others. Just comparing him next to Dean should give an idea of how big he is:
You may notice he's actually got a sprite for his pyjamas now, which some may remember from a CG of his. This should functionally replace any sprite where he's just shirtless for the sake of getting ready for bed. As for the blue hoodie, people reference a certain show for his current outfit, and we all know what that the hoodie outfit is referencing, so I'm just leaning hard into that being a thing for his aesthetic. Much like Dean, he has poses, he has expressions, his smug aura still mocks me.
The other main case members are here, lined up for height's sake. I've started Tyson, and will likely be working on them in this order just so I can chip away at them almost like a checklist. After Sal there's obviously Oswin, Benson, David, Jack, plus a couple others that I'm sure people may know of by now. Basically anyone that's already been seen in-game so far is on this list. But those that have seen me work on the server know of another couple of goodies on the list.
Which brings me to something for the update in April. My plan is that we're going to have all of Day 17 AB for a0.31. I have to head interstate around Easter for various family things, but I have most everything (shy of a CG) I need in order to fully implement the build so I can just write it while I'm away. Speaking of assets:
A certain friend has come to play! Given the role he's had so far across the various Paths, it's about time we see more of him outside of the lab if only to get some more insight into how he plays into the mystery. Now, Thanatos is about a foot tall, so understandably standing next to even Roswell is going to be a struggle to render on-screen. But I have a plan for that, don't worry. It'll all be made clear once the build goes up next month.
Between then and the next build, and probably after that build goes live I'm still planning on streaming when I can to get the other sprites done, so feel free to poke me on the server if I'm not already drawing to get me working. Streaming this stuff is likely to get it done sooner and also gives you a chance to point out anything you don't like about the sprites while I'm working on them. If you don't speak up while I'm working on them, then tough luck! This is how they'll be for the rest of the game otherwise!

I gotta say I wasn't a fan at first, Sal's was just so different for him, but now...I'm really warming up to this idea. Dean's looks very cool, legs seem a bit short, but Roswell's looks perfect for him. If the rest will look this good I'm on board. I'll miss the old designs, they really grew on me, and I thought they were perfect but I could get use to this 👍😁👍
