thunderlane and lightning were faced with a decision as wind rider's alcoholism and disposition worsened. For the good of her family, and herself, Lightning had to cut her father out of her life.
It didn't stick. Without his biggest enabler around, Wind Rider does eventually (over years) start piecing his life back together. He reenters Lightning's life when Zipperflash is a teenager, more determined than ever to mold his grandchild into the ultimate champion.

The operative word there is "almost". Lightning doesn't comprehend the scope of her actions because nobody got hurt. So what's the big deal? Being dismissed by the Wonderbolts felt like a ridiculous overreaction in Lightning's opinion. The Wonderbolts are all a bunch of manipulative asshats anyway, it's a known fact that underhanded tactics and reckless stunts get you far in the flying business. Spitfire had been ready to praise Lightning's tornado technique until Rainbow got up under her craw with that namby-pamby "That was dangerous, I don't want to be a Wonderbolt anymore, waah" bullshit. This is all Dash's fault. Lightning is sure Spitfire didn't actually give a rat's ass about the tornado, she just kicked Lightning out to kowtow to Dash's whining. Hmph.

I was just thinking if Lightning would ever truly realise that Wind Rider is responsible for his life turning out the way it is... I GOT MY ANSWER. KIND OF. Yes and no, it seems. Which leads me to ask... Does Lightning ever stop blaming Rainbow for what happened to her? Does she ever look back and think, okay, yeah, I almost killed some ponies?
