It imposes heteronormativity on queer couples, which I dislike. I myself would be pretty unhappy if in a world of magic and fantasy, the only way to have a child would be to force a sex change onto my partner. Just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. :/ Also not a fan of how I previously used it as a mean-spirited joke against Bruce (trapping Bruce in a different sex body), it feels sexist and squicky now, in ways that are difficult for me to articulate. So tldr: I’m cutting back on the “magic sex change” route for child conception because I no longer like it.

I just don't understand what's wrong with heterosexual sex as a mean of conceiving a foal. For unicorns, this is convenient and less costly.

honestly i find quibble to be waaaaaay more annoying, imo Mudbriar is the one out of Quib's league XD

Non-Euclidean Cat

I look at that picture and I just can't help thinking that Quibble could have done much better than Mudbriar.

The story about him clinging to Cloudy is going to make me CRY,, that sounds so precious. If you don’t draw it, I will. And I’m warning you, it’ll be brain-meltingly adorable either way

"all the gay characters have to have sickly kids with birth defects" They don't. Cloudy comes from a Hetero relationship, and she suffers from similar maladies. Unless you're saying that the magical process leads to defects in children produced by homosexual couples, which also isn't true, because this experiment is open to anyone. Not only to gay couples. As for baby experimentation...I guess the only time that would be happening is if the cloning process actually produced a baby. Otherwise, only genes are involved. And once a baby is produced, the experiment concludes as a success. If a baby dies in the process of gene combination, was it ever really a baby? Say the genes reject each other, and the zygote is no longer viable. Do experiment-produced babies have the same value of life to naturally produced babies? I'm sure to the parents they do, but would they to the broader culture or in legal terms? Would that be equivalent to losing a baby? There's a very thin line that separates genetic confluences from "baby". The process is not all that different from in-vitro babies. It's just now made possible for every kind of couple. idk it does raise a lot of interesting moral questions!

I'm a bit confused by this. So they didn't know there would be defects in generation 1 I assume. By gen 2 are the kinks all resolved? Because it seems weird to be like all the gay characters have to have sickly kids with birth defects. Also it seems weird in a moral sense to just have an institution that is experimenting on actual babies. Wouldnt it make more sense that the kids only possible problems are genetic diseases that they inherit from their parents? Not stuff caused by the magical process? But like if the problems are sorted out by gen 2 that's fine.

It’s uncreative, not to mention intrusive. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth. MLP is a world full of magic and fantasy, so why adhere to a heteronormative outlook on reproduction? In MLP G1 there were hardly any stallions, yet there were many, many babies. I have vague recollection of some of these babies being created through magical means? Made from wishing on a star, found in a cabbage patch, stuff like that. In the first television show, I believe the babies were said to be “born from their mother’s reflection”. Clearly there is a way for queer couples to reproduce without defaulting to something as lazy as forcing a body change on them. My handling of topics like gender and sex have been clumsy in the past, you don’t need to defend it.

Amber

I feel like changing the bio sex of a partner through magic makes sense and isn't really "heteronormative" considering it takes a biological male and a female to reproduce. *shrugs*

Clear Sky is indeed Twaddles adoptive mom, she (and her daughter) just pop up in Quibble and Mud’s lives a little later than she does in canon. Wind Sprint is a teenager and Twaddles is a small child when Clear, Mud, and Quibble start considering forming a herd. It was a long adjustment period for surly Wind Spirit, though she eventually came to appreciate having TWO dads that cared about her, as opposed to her shitty indifferent bio dad, Wind Rider. It took her longer still to get along with Twaddles, who she resented for stealing her mom’s attention and also being unathletic and annoying. Twaddles however looked up to his big stepsister from day one, and eventually pestered his way into her tsundere jock heart~

I love this!!!! And I love Twaddles and his friendship with Cloudy <3 Does Twaddles still have Clear Sky as his adoptive mom? I think I remember you saying on one of your posts that she was in a relationship with Quibble and Briar? I really like this new way of reproduction too! (Talk nerdy to me). I like to think that same sex couples (or a reproductively challenged couple) have a lot of different ways to start a family. I can see spellborns as being relatively uncommon, at least to stallion couples. I mean a mare changing into a stallion to impregnate her wife seems like an easy, fun transformation. And fast, as she can change back after they concieve. A stallion, however, has to endure months long pregnancy, new hormones, and oh yeah their new vagina gets ripped a sunder at the end of all of it. It's a serious commitment and a true labor of love to bring a foal that way. And, unfortunately, complications are more common from a stallion-to-mare pregancy (this may have played a factor into Stormy's own tramatic pregancy and premature birth to his widdle Finnie) But like any individual some stallions are okay with all of this and take it all on. Some, like Umbra, found being pregnant and feeling their foals in their belly as one of the best experiences of their lives (Umbra's triplet pregancy is VERY rare with spellborn births. He was considered high risk (and good lord did Clipsy fret over his husband during this time) but luckily his pregancy overall was peaceful and event free. So yeah take my random ass gay horse baby making hc XD

I love your Briar design! Also I love the new HC for same sex babies, especially because it a thing that is currently being researched and might be possible in the nearish distant future.

Nah, t'was never my role to make Twaddles neckbeardy or incel-y or whatever. He's actually based a little off several kids I knew in high school, we were in an anime club and met up in the library afterschool to watch/discuss anime. I'm REALLY embarrassed about that but also stupid nostalgic for those times so Twaddles is me making peace with my weeaboo days, I guess. The anime kids (and myself) weren't mean or toxic, just a bunch of super excitable and somewhat awkward people psyched about sharing a common interest. Twaddles is an homage to them.

Amaris

I love this. I really enjoy how the pandora verse offers so many ways to have babies. You have sperm donators, surrogate, magic, and now science. I think it’s good to have different options because every parent has their own opinion and preference.

MyLittleVerse

Twaddle is a good boy. At first I thought you were going down the root of toxic neckbeard but I like what I’ve seen of him so far!

Vio_dacreator

For guys idk maybe one sperm is changed to an egg and then they go the old fashioned way of getting a surrogate to hold their baby. And then its still biologically theres.

Vio_dacreator

About the headcanon of ponies making babies. If ponies can change sex why cant they just change small pieces of themselves to the other. Like something as small as changing an egg to a sperm cell. So if you have a lesbian couple one of the women just donates her egg (thats magicked to a sperm) and and then medically inserted to the female and boom she impregnated.

Lopoddity

Quibble is naturally blonde, but I keep it dyed just for recognizability and readability :>. Otherwise I'd get lots of comments asking "Who's that?"

Vio_dacreator

Also doesn't Quibble have naturally Blonde hair? Is he just constantly redying?

Vio_dacreator

Yes everything YES everything here just screams wholesome and I ablsoultetly loveit!
