There's a curious cultural dichotomy between big cats (eg. lions, tigers, leopards, etc) and smaller cats, particular domestic cats. Big cats take themselves very seriously. They are seemingly obsessed with pride, prestige, and tradition. Lions especially pride themselves on being powerful, noble, and dignified at all times. They have a hunter's mindset to socializing, and form friendships and alliances based on how much social clout and power it will afford them. From the moment Shari was born, her parents had already planned out her life- honor roll, valedictorian, graduate college sumna cum laude, high flying job in politics, medicine, or business (get out on that job market savannah and bring home that metaphorical bacon!). Marry a proud lion with good genes and even better finances, turn out a few cubs, rinse and repeat.
Shari followed her parents' plan perfectly. She soared high in her studies and eventually landed a promising job in business finance. She pushed her own silly interests and pesky personal feelings aside. Then, one night at a friend's bachelorette party, she meets a little tomcat named Cal, and everything goes tits up.
Domestic cats differ from their larger cousins in that they're little weirdos. Lil creachers. They don't often give a hoot about playing along with social constructs like "having a job" or "not committing crimes" or "having a gender". Whereas a lion might study dance to as a means of impressing their colleagues, little cats dance just cuz they feel like it. Bat around a toilet paper tube because they feel like it. Run around a room at 3am because they feel like it. And so Calvin dances Shari's socks off, completely uncaring of the club patrons gawking at them, just because he feels like it. (and also cuz lion woman hot).
Shari's parents did not care for their daughter dating (and later marrying!) some nobody housecat wannabe author. They probably would've disowned Shari and just had another cub if they hadn't been too old to safely do so (dammit). Calvin is still subject to many withering glares at the lion holiday dinners. Calvin doesn't care. Shari doesn't care. They both find each other to be both egregiously fun and fiercely intelligent, and that's all that matters. Once Priscilla asked her mother how she fell for a little bald goober like her dad, and Shari gets a faraway dreamy look in her eyes and starts saying something about "hips that grooved like a well-oiled machine" to which Pris blanches cuz ew mom wtf
Shari and Cal are voguing, a style of dance that originated in Black LGBTQ spaces in the 80s. Here's a version without all the neon barf effects

Yes. Lions are stubbornly patriarchal, though it differs from human patriarchy. Lionesses aren't forced to be docile housewives, they are instead encouraged to be savage, bold, and fiercely independent (especially financially). Lions are as well....however, lions are permitted to be "lazy", for lack of a better word. It's expected that a lioness will work a hard job all day, then come home and cook and clean and care for the cubs without any complaint. Males aren't burdened by this expectation, how could they ever lift a paw to help out at home when they've been busy being a breadwinner all day long? Perfectly acceptable for a lion to put his feet up and have a beer on the couch every day while his wife toils away... Males are promoted more frequently and earn more pay for the same work. It's expected that lion households will default to the father figure to lead them. Every male is the "king' of his home, though most domestic decision-making still falls on the shoulders of the females. Fathers are the supreme authority in their children's lives, but are generally emotionally distant and inattentive. Males are allowed, even encourage, to date multiple females at the same time before settling down with the "best" one. The most conservative lions will even try to excuse infidelity and extramarital affairs, because how could anybody ever expect a hot-blooded lion to ever be fulfilled by just ONE lioness? These patriarchal attitudes start young- many male cubs are allowed to run and play while their sisters are stuck doing chores. Shari's father felt he had the authority to forbid Shari from marrying Calvin....right up til Calvin pointed out, well, it's not like the old man could actually DO anything to stop them, besides huff and puff and growl a lot. Like most rigid gender expectations, these attitudes are being increasingly challenged and dismissed in modern day FB.

It's natural! :) She had big hair throughout the 80s, then cropped it short when she became a mom (baby Priscilla loved to yank Mommy's pretty hair), then buzzed it lower as she advanced in her career and wanted to look more stern and intimidating (and not have to deal with brushing heaps of mane in the mornings before work)

Is shari’s mane now a canonical part of her design or just something she rocked in the 80s? (Basically asking is it extensions or natural) either way they are both absolutely ROCKING it
