Sunday Doodle Dump

counting down the days til my summer break. Have some doodles!
1.) Brooke’s giant oceanic mammal mama, Delta. I recommend googling pics of false killer whales, few creatures manage to look so simultaneously goofy and terrifying. Delta is a LOUD and hypercompetitive retired swimming gold medalist and I bet Brooke definitely doesn’t feel any crushing pressure to live up to her!
2.) Babie Brooke, all squeaks, no thoughts. Infant marine mammals naturally lean forward like little t-rexes to counterbalance their long heavy floppity tails. They’re very clumsy and fall down a lot. As they grow and become more coordinated, they adopt a more upright, humanoid posture.
3.) Brooke may be grown now but she’ll always be Delta’s precious pudgy pink porpoise pwincess (read: Delta ain’t so good at respecting her daughter’s boundaries)
4.) this is very not canon, whales are too large to come up on land in FB. Instead they live in largely nomadic ocean societies. Except my late night muse said “DRAW A GIGANTIC WHALE WITH GIGANTIC TITS” aaaaand….well, there ya go. Her name is Sharon and she owns a beachside condo in Florida.

5.) oldish concept art for Odd and Finn
6.) newer concept art for Finn. His lizard design isn’t working for me, our little beach twunk doesn’t feel right without his big eyebrows and cuddly fur. He is now a Tasmanian tiger, also known as a thylacine. His blue-green fur is either the result of a very careful, constant dye jobs, orrrrr it just turned that color due to him constantly being in saltwater and ingesting medically unsafe amounts of blue raspberry slushies. Despite being a mammal now, he’s still known to climb into Odd’s hoodies “for warmth”, with Odd often waking up with the teeny snoring marsupial happily plastered to him.

Besides, you can have background stuff like this that isn't super relevant to the main story/plot because it's fun as shit, also I love your work and have been following you since like 2014 so seeing your reply made my day <3

Sharon should definitely be canon- just imagine that she's the matriarch of her pod and occasionally needs a break because dealing with young whales is a bit exhausting tbh, and works through a proxy for a beachside property, contractors are very confused when they don't get a request for a house or nothing, nah son instead its a fucking ginormous infinity pool (seriously they've never even heard of one that big before the fuck?) and then sharon shows up maybe once a year and just flops right into it. #Goals

You’re thinking of an Amazon river dolphin. They’re pretty nifty animals! :3 But Brooke is an Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin (which are sometimes naturally pink). She shares her species with her other mom (Delta’s wife), Echo. I’m not sure which of them birthed Brooke, but she’s 100% their biological daughter.

All of these designs are good, but I think I love the baby dolphin designs the most. The perfect combination of silly and cute. Can't wait to learn more about the underwater world of FB! Are there any ways for land animals to visit the underwater cities? Do land/sea animals interact much or no?

Nope, Delta can live on land just fine! She’s about the same size as Katie. Orcas (which are much bigger than Katie or Delta) are about the largest marine creatures that can comfortably exist outside of the ocean, anything bigger than that is going to suffer a lot under the forces of gravity. As for how Delta feels about Katie….well, Delta’s a pretty friendly, down to earth lady, so she’d probably get along with Katie alright. Delta’s wife, however…..would probably faint at the sight of Katie

baby dolphins learn to squeak/click/trill before they learn speech. Their lil feet go slappity-plap as they run forward full-force like little fat velociraptors, frequently tripping and falling flat on their face (and squeak-crying for mommie to come kiss their sore beak better)

Totally agree with the Finn redesign! Loved the lizard look but it felt just a little off... am absolutely obsessed with how you're anthropomorphing aquatic mammals, baby Brooke needs to be cherished.
