He’s the only character that does this. There’s something stupidly hilarious to me about a little horse taking the lord’s name in vain, especially in a fantastical universe with sun and moon goddesses, so I decided to carry it into Fuzzbutts. >:3
been meaning to flesh out Bruce and Sunny’s relationship. It’s pretty nonexistent in the beginning. Bruce is naturally a cagey little butthole, and he’s had to be- it can be tough being a little guy in a big world. He does not at all like or trust this overly-familiar dumb dog. It doesn’t help that Sunny isn’t the best roommate, dragging trash home from work for eclectic ”art projects”, eating Bruce’s food, and shedding all over the apartment. But the longer they live together, the better Sunny gets about respecting Bruce’s boundaries (eg. not pestering Bruce to watch legally blonde at 2am until bruce snaps and chomps his tail), and the more they develop something like an actual bond.
Sunny is just so aggressively nice that it’s rather hard for Bruce to keep disliking him. Sunny remembers Bruce’s birthday when no one else does (even bakes him a lopsided cake!) scavenges Bruce a new coat when he notices Bruce stubbornly wearing his old patchy one, tries to learn Bruce’s plants’ names just so they’ll have something to talk about.
The best way I can describe Bruce’s feelings toward Sunny are those internet videos featuring dads that insist they don’t want a dog, but then are later shown completely wrapped around their new dog’s little paw. Bruce is impatient and grumpy by default, but will still, for unknown reasons, endure a great amount of Sunny’s shenanigans. He‘ll sleep in Sunny’s bed with him when Sunny’s antsy about a thunderstorm. He’ll do that palm-touch to the forehead when he suspects Sunny is sick, and administer medicine (read: wrestle a squirming and kicking Sunny down and force cough syrup down his muzzle, the same way someone might do to an irl unruly dog). He can eventually be coaxed into watching legally blonde together. He cooks for Sunny sometimes (gotta make sure the idiot eats his vegetables somehow), sometimes they cook together. They’re very domestic with each other, casually touchy and comfortable around each other. Friends, though a better word might be partners. Their bond seems one-sided to outside observers, but ultimately there’s little Bruce can’t be swayed into doing for Sunny. Even a snarly Tasmanian devil is not immune to the power of puppy dog eyes.
