Honey The Helpful

Of course the job of aid/assistant can be performed by any critter, but dogs enjoy the most popularity in the field, due to their general friendliness and loyalty. Service dogs are commonly employed to assist people with disabilities, but a curious number of them work as ”helper hounds”, a sort of hired personal companion/assistant. Helper hounds are very popular in the realm of elder care.
Honey is a helper hound. While her hobby of spewing semi-unhinged right-wing rhetoric online (*cough*grifting*cough*) may be fun, it doesn’t do the best job of paying for the expensive political science Master’s degree she’s working on. It does, however provide fantastic advertising for (typically quite lonely) old folk who wish to purchase Honey’s services. And so, Honey receives a lavish paycheck and usually lovely gifts and praise (almost universally valued by dogs) and all she has to do in return is be a polite sounding board for them to bounce their casual bigotry off of (and rants about why their children stopped visiting for the holidays). She’s shown here helping dear old Mr. Samson (who has bad knees) on a grocery run to make his famous honey banana french toast. Enjoy the snack, Honey! Who needs a booming pride parade when you can watch the weather channel with an old man? :D
I’ve been asked before which species/communities tend to be homophobic in Fuzzbutts. The general rule is that if a species has strong sexual dimorphism/gender expectations in our world, then the same is true in FB. And from these rigid gender lines comes queerphobia, as queer people often buck or blur gender norms and threaten the status quo. Mr. Samson is a silverback gorilla, a patriarchal species that culturally maintains inflexible ideas of how males and females should look and act. Other examples of patriarchal species with a cultural aversion to queerness include lions, kangaroos, deer, etc. This is not to say every member of these species will exhibit homophobia, just like in our world FB is undergoing a global culture shift where the bigoted attitudes of the past are pushed back against with rapidly growing intensity. It’s also not to say certain anomalies can’t exist- domestic dogs for example are renown for having carefree and accepting attitudes toward gender and sexuality, yet Honey herself is a notable intolerant butthole (trapped in a repressive hell of her own choosing).

Ooh, that makes sense. I didn't know I was bi until I moved out of *my* hometown and found connections in the LGBTQ+ community, too. Glad Honey is finding herself.

Both! She was raised in a very insulated community that used queerfolk (and other undesirables) as a convenient scapegoat for society's ills. I'm still working out religion in FB, but Honey probably grew up in something very similar to a megachurch youth group, right down to having lessons on upholding virginity til marriage and converting poor confused queer peers. Because of this, Honey does not admit to herself she's gay until she's finally away from home for the first time, at college.

Was Honey opposed to LGBTQ+ culture because her family didn’t approve of it, or was it because she didn’t really understand it until later in her life?
