stealth edit: hmm in retrospect the original language here was probably pushing it, decided to dial it back to something a bit less explicit. Bob was taught growing up to have a stiff respect for the church, but Toffee is exactly the kind of guy to make depraved religious innuendo that reeeeeally doesn’t leave much to the imagination and it. Flusters Bob. SO much
EDIT: okay, so i axed toffee’s original thought bubble because I worried it might be in violation of patreon’s guidelines, but i’ve reread their policy and the site outlines that comedy featuring adult language isn’t counted as mature (and thus requiring a nsfw account to post). Sooo I added the original joke as an alternate version, apologies for all these edits!

Your comment makes me feel like I'm succeeding with his character, I was really aiming for something more nuanced than "organized religion bad". You make me wanna draw more of scruffy pastor dog, there's so much about him we've yet to dig into.

Hey, Lop, I know this is a little out of left field but I just wanted to tell you I really appreciate Toffee so much as a character. It's so rare to see a spiritual/religious queer character that isn't treated like a joke or as a self-hating fool who just needs to see the "light" of how terrible their religion is (Christianity being the main one mostly used, at least in Western media) and become truly themselves once they ditch it. I don't think these depictions are necessarily unfounded or bad but as a queer person myself who still considers themselves religious despite that, it's such a breath of fresh air to see. There are DEFINETELY completely fair critiques to be made on the institution of religion and how it has wronged so many people (women, minorities, queer folk, etc.) but religion and spirituality is still something so human and important to so many people, queer or not. Thank you so much for this thoughtful and fun representation. You're such an inspiration to me for character design, writing, and world-building.
